Well, his overall numbers were good, but when you break it down month by month, it's a bit different. But by and large, he did, yes. Also, Adam Dunn, by most accounts, is one of the most feared and effective offensive players in the league (what he'd get on the open market is scary), and by your standard, he's had six of seven "bad" seasons (and the good one he hit .266). But we're making the comparison today, not a week ago. The Astros demoted a backup OF and the starting CF, who they promptly replaced with a player (Pence) who's been arguably the best offensive CF in the game since he's been in the majors, and one of the best defensive center fielders as well. For the starting OF as a whole, all three have an OPS above .800, and 2 of the 3 are among the elite hitters in the National League so far this season. I'm not losing much sleep over the outfield these days. I can understand being upset given that Jennings was out for about six weeks, but personally, I'm not. The Astros picked up the 11th-rated starter in all of baseball from a season ago (VORP), and he's been very good so far this season in his starts. The two pitchers the Astros dealt have been below average, and the center fielder, while having a good year, wouldn't have helped this team all that much (imo, of course) if he were still here. Yes, if Jennings continues to be hurt (unlikely) and/or leaves after the season, it's fair to regret it from a value perspective. But right now, I can't see any of the three players Houston dealt helping this team all that much (if they were here), and Jennings has looked very good thus far.
I think ric summed the willy t debate up pretty well, its not that they traded him, its that he was basically a throw-in. He wasn't valued properly.
I think Jennings had/has more value than Ric and some other fans think, but by and large, I don't mind the fans that are upset from a value perspective. It's when people regret it from an on-field perspective (couple of posts in this thread) and think the Astros would be a better team right now if they could reverse the trade that I disagree.
do the rockies only have one song they can play when someone comes up to bat? that **** is getting annoying.
The fact is, the Astros had a terrible pitcher in Fogg on the ropes and they could have scored more.....but this is not a good team...just as well that we continue to lose and look towards the future.
Wheeler was absolutely ****ing terrible today. Bottom line. Oswalt didn't pitch very well either. Typically most closer's don't have era's in the 4's with frequent success, so why is Wheeler STILL out there?
