They're catching up to Woody's pus-ball. He needs to bust out the knuckler... see what it does in the mile-high air. This one could get ugly in a hurry... especially since Woody isn't getting the corners tonight (and we all know he can't live over the plate).
He will master the knuckle ball throughout this season, and the off-season, and will pitch till he's 50.
Garner played with fire and got burned... Qualls should have been in this game (even though Qualls has a penchant for the longball lately).
OK, Woody gave up the homer, but I like the fieriness that is happening now. Woody tossed. One more person gets tossed and I think we win!
Where was that sort of call last night? THE BALL DIDN'T EVEN HIT HIM! CB Bucknor IS the worst umpire in the majors... nobody ever refutes that... and his ineptitude has apparently spread to the rest of his crew.
cb buckner sucks but apparently he's the only one smart enough to get woody williams out of the game. i mean 6 innings, 5 runs? it was time garner. now we're down two.
The thing that annoys me the most is that Qualls ends up having to come in anyways... while Garner gives up 4 runs in the process to try to buy an extra inning of rest for his elite bullpen guys. Qualls-Lidge-Wheeler is this team's ONLY above-average strength. If we have a close lead, and its the 7th inning, these guys BETTER DAMN WELL be in the mix of things if its anybody but Roy Oswalt on the mound. Not using them is equivalent to leaving Lance Berkman on the bench when you need a pinch hitter with the bases loaded. They are a major strength.
Well, something tells me that he had Qualls' recent HR binge in mind as well... then again, he had no problem putting him into a 2-1 game yesterday. So, he's either saving Qualls-Lidge-Wheeler from burnout, or he honestly thought Woody had good enough stuff to get him thru 7... both options deserve criticism. As for Trever Miller... jeezus. Something tells me that Garner's managing would be better if he had zero lefty options in the pen, and simply had to go to his best pitchers... regardless of handedness.
