Please limit talk in this thread to this series. Other topics should be discussed in the appropriate threads. Play-by-play is not allowed. If you need that, there are other places to find it. Political discussions belong in the D&D forum not in here. All games are broadcast on Space City Network unless otherwise noted. 9-2 Justin Verlander (R) vs. Julian Aguiar (R). 3:10 9-3 Weird off day 9-4 Spencer Arrighetti (R) vs. TBD 5:40 9-5 Hunter Brown (R) vs. TBD 12:10 MLBN (out-of-market only)
First. Let's keep this streak going. WLW Vintage JV, Spaghetti gets slurped, but Hunter kicks TBD's ass
Strange they're getting an offday in the middle of a series in September. I guess as long as they don't spend it eating that disgusting mess the city of Cincinnatti insultingly calls "chili", this should be another series win.
I'm guessing the off day would have normally been today but that would also be weird since its a holiday.
Unrelated, but the Maddux documentary on MLBN right now. Tremendous stuff. A must watch for any baseball junkie, regardless of era. Very pertinent to what JV is probably going through right now.... combination of milestones on the horizon but still pitching for a team that has title aspirations, in the face of slightly declining stuff. Such a thinking man's game.
Tucker expected back in the lineup by the end of this series. Woohoo. 2B Altuve 3B Bregman DH Alvarez C Diaz RF Tucker SS Pena 1B Singleton (vs RH), Dubon (vs LH) LF Gamel/Dubon CF Meyers Anybody aware Dubon is .769 OPS (.281 BA) vs LH in his career? Singleton .764 OPS (.257 BA) vs RH this season. When Caratini catches, Diaz is DH and Alvarez plays LF. That's what we need to roll with in the playoffs. That's going to win us a World Series.
I'm guessing Bregman sits out this series as well. He said he got the elbow drained the first time, and that probably happened again. You can only do that so many times before it starts to get riskier for infection or worsening inflammation. Really disturbing when they said swinging the bat is what is aggravating it now. They need him a month from now, but they also need him to stay somewhat sharp so that an extended time off doesn't make him into April Bregman. Yordan is probably batting 2nd regardless for the duration. Nobody can argue with the results at this point. More AB's, more protection behind him, more runs created.
Both teams are coming off 17 games in 17 days. Today would've been the day off but MLB wanted the holiday game -- and I'm not mad. Still believe Blanco's needs a skippy -- his velocity might be there , but his command has suffered over the past few weeks. The off day will keep everyone else on 5 days rest. The skippy might avoid his TJ next season. I wonder where Javier would be currently if he had 2 skipped starts last season when it clearly appeared necessary. It also may have improved his final start vs Arluckton last season.
I'm not sure how much a couple of skipped starts helps vs potential injury after all the innings already on the arm, but I agree it should help performance the rest of the way, and can't hurt.
W ND W L. But the L won't be Hunters fault. My heart says W W W W because even on the off day, we'll still be ****in fools up for Christ. Yessir!!! Also...Baby David improves to 12-7 for his Astros record. Things are looking up after being 7-7 at one point.
If he did it equals skippys -- and it shows the Astros being proactive with his load management. They would also be preparing him for his most likely postseason role.
Can't recall the last time an entire regular season series took place early in the day. Due to that, it has a post season atmosphere.
