Also, Melancon is the new closer while Lyon is being rested/checked out. Hopefully he will continue to pitch well and take that job.
True that, while I know the team is semi-rebuilding, I do like to go all in when watching the guys play. I find it so much more enjoyable when you live and die with every pitch. Sure, there will be days like yesterday that just kills the rest of it but others that make it. Still, I do agree, don't let it cause health issues...bring it down a notch.
Three or four blown saves later than it should have been, but glad nonetheless. Melancon may not be closer material, either, but at least we get to watch someone trying to establish himself rather than an overpaid has-been.
I think Melancon is very much closer material. Plus fastball, strikeout pitch with his curveball, and the bulldog mentality you need. The Yankees were always thinking he could eventually take over for Rivera, thus he's been groomed as a future closer for awhile.
If he has a shoulder issue, why was he pitching at all? Is this response some sort of face saving measure? "oh, we know Lyon isnt this bad so he must have a physical ailment of some kind". "Fly him down to Houston. It will make easier to replace him in the lineup if he isnt here and we wont have to face the music just yet." Maybe, but maybe he IS this bad. Dont know. Im all for making sure players get doctors to look at them when they have a problem. Just seems timely that this one just happened after another blown save.
Well deserved for Melancon. If we converted half of our 8 blown saves this season, we would be playing for a first place tie with the Cards right now.
Melancon wont be needed today in his new role. Nothing to save Looks like isnt going to be much help as a reliever.
Figueroa name was in there. Then it wasnt. Matrix glitch? Someone erasing his name may mean something
