This really sucks, any chance they had at making a run at the Wild Card is gone. Carlos was on a roll big time the past few series and was the main reason they were winning games. Then, to replace him with Reggie Abercrombie !!!!! .................. damn.

I realize that this is a basketball based board, but damn...people comparing playing baseball to playing basketball is like comparing brain surgery to podiatry. Very important, but very, VERY different.

It was his left pinky. If he didn't hang it off the bat, the ball might have hit the knob of the bat instead. Oh well. It's not like the Astros were going anywhere this season.

Wow. I missed the game last night. This is terrible news. El Caballo was the hottest hitter in baseball and was putting up career numbers.

Yeah, Braun's a real genius for acquiring Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia.

Nice first innings there. Looks like this should be a 4 game sweep. I still believe we can make the playoffs :D

Sheets? last time I checked, Sheets has been with the Brewers for awhile.

yeah, you're right. Braun is a scrub, he does nothing for the Brewers. what was I thinking?

I guess the Reds are kicking themselves a bit now with Harang's struggles after giving him a big deal. He's been awful this year and today is no different.

The Astros are doing what they should be doing...punishing the ball when it's over the plate. If Harang wants to keep leaving it there, they have to kill it.

Shame about Lee. He was on an unbelievable tear. Berkman is going to have to get it back together a bit and they're going to need Tejada to start producing.

Those of you who don't think the pinky matters much, have you ever swung a bat in your life? Yes, it's on the bottom of the bat, but it's used for balance. No way he could swing the same without it.

WOW yesterday afternoon I was looking at Lee's stats, comparing it with the rest of the National League. I was thinking that even if he didn't play another game this season, he would still have had a great year.

Looks like he only had 1 AB after that

It doesn't matter if Sheets had been there 15 years. The point is, the difference in the Astros and Brewers win total is due to factors entirely independent of Ryan Braun and Carlos Lee. You could swap the two players straight up and have zero impact.

I didn't even remotely imply Braun was a scrub. He's a great player. But so is Lee, and in fact, Lee actually has a better OPS this season than Braun. As such, it seems extremely silly to label Braun as "way ahead."

perhaps you didnt imply that he was a scrub, but again you have implied that his performance has little to do with the Brewers win total.

besides, i'm not making any case for braun to be an mvp. personally i hate the guy for some reason. but if you could read without making assumptions, all i said was..........if lee is in any sort of contention for MVP, braun is way ahead of him simply because of his teams standings.

did you also think it was extremely silly that Ryan Howard won the MVP in 2006 ahead of Albert Pujols?

I mean Pujols had a higher OBP, OPS, AVG, 2B, RUNS, and he did it in less games and fewer AB's, and lets not even think about Ryan Howards strikeout to walk ratio, especially compared to Prince Alberts.

so maybe that isn't so silly after all.
