Berkman said he was joking around with Timmons yesterday about that bad foul-in-the-stands call the other day, and said he hoped Timmons realized it was good fun since Timmons would be behind the plate today. Don't think that's it, but I read it in the Comical this am.
Bottom line: Ensberg with 2 outs, 2 strikes, & the bases loaded, watched TWO close pitches go by. You are giving the ump all the control here. You WILL eventually get punched out. Swing the ****ing bat, foul it off, ****ing TRY to do something. That call was not the ****ing travesty you're making it out to be.
Eh, let me rephrase. I don't think the way he went about that at bat was bad. The 3 pages of b****ing were mostly on the ump's strike 3 call. Doesn't really matter anymore, game's long over.
Well, to be fair, much of it was folks piling on me for calling out MoBerg w/o knowing how far outside that pitch was. But, he still keeps the bat on his shoulder too much.
Then we'll just disagree most strongly & leave it at that. Mo's the single most frustrating baseball player I've ever watched, with Chris Holt & Tim Redding vying for a pretty distant second. So much ability, no idea how to use it.
Chris Holt was always a favorite back when he played here. I used to bring a few gloves for me and my friends to see how many home runs we could catch from the other team. Good stuff
I was watching mlb.tv for the Stros-Reds game a few days ago and I was getting the Reds' feed, and their color analyst described Mo perfectly. He said Mo appears to be a pure guess hitter. I believe that's dead on. He's guessing up there, pure and simple. On the rare occasions when he guesses right he's capable of crushing the ball. Of course, it gets so frustrating seeing him watch perfect strikes go right down the middle of the plate with his "Aw shucks, shoulda swung at that" look. Or watching him jump and dive away from fastballs that are on the outside corner.
