guess that’s my point. Just because he’s on the team doesn’t mean he needs to start. Hate that Diaz will suffer because of Dusty being Dusty
Whenever Maldy in the lineup and Diaz not in the lineup, hatred level for Dusty go higher. Sitting a .280 hitter...........
I'd hope so. Singleton has played his minor/pro career there and Diaz just the occasional spot start. Question is does Diaz's offense offset enough of his defensive deficiencies....probably so, but Framber is a ground ball pitcher so you'd expect there to be more "scoops" needed today by your first baseman. Diaz whiffed on some throws over to first last week. Not the best of throws but a regular first baseman probably gets those.
Look at the competition in the division. Last year, the 4 other teams in the ALW had a .449 winning percentage, and the Astros played them 76 times. That works out to 42 wins, mathematically. This year those teams have a .475 winning percentage and the Astros play them 52 times. That works out to 27 wins mathematically. Astros had that benefit of an added 5-6 extra wins just for being in that division.
Only sure thing is Diaz should've played more 1B earlier this year instead of a 36 y/o who played 99 games of 100, who also deteriorated in the 2nd half of the previous season. THREE damn catchers were available.
This is definitely accurate IMO. If you are on the bench on a Dusty team, regardless of how bad you might be, you’re going to still get a start every now and then. He’s made comments before about wanting to give his bench guys opportunities because essentially you never know when you might need them (I.e. injuries).
Agreed. This is great for a very deep team, a very young team, a very old team, a rebuilding team, or a team that is looking to coast its way into the playoffs. None of that applies to the 2023 Astros. He is just a very poor fit and refuses to adjust.
No way I’m starting Singleton over Diaz or Abreu. Ten games up in the division, I don’t have a problem with it.
I agree but considering the potential lineup Dusty could (and has) put out on a day game after night game on a get away day . . . Dubon and Meyers are on the bench vs a RHSP. I'm fine with it.
I think the Diaz 1B defense thing is horseshit. I doubt that’s driving decision making for usage at 1B.
