So, I guess Hinch was one out away from managing another win... and it all fell apart thanks to Gregerson? Harris continues to be nails... wouldn't be opposed to them sending a 9th inning his way every now and then (presuming they actually have another pitcher in the bullpen who can handle the 8th).
Really really really need a good performance from Devenski today, and not just holding them down, we need innings from him today Gregerson has pitched in 3 of the last 4 Harris has pitched in 3 of the last 4 Giles has pitched in 4 of the last 5 (no runs allowed for those who care) Feliz has pitched in 3 of the last 5, which wouldn't be bad but one of those was a 3 inning outing The only really fresh pen guys we have today are Feldman, Sipp and Neshek. I'm sure Harris and Gregerson could pitch, but that would be 3 in a row and 4 out of 5 for either of them if they did. For all the complaining we have heard about why Hinch doesn't use Harris more, he is on pace to throw in 73 games, so couldn't be asked to do a whole lot more and expect him to stay strong
You seriously think Marisnick and his worse than a pitcher offense would be helping us because of his personal magnetism. Gomez has sucked, he has really sucked, but Marisnick has somehow been even worse.
Absolutely I do, probably more than most I'm not in the clubhouse for the Astros though, so I would have no idea how the players in there feel about Gomez vs Jake Maybe you have inside info on that and are right on the money, I don't get to go in there though. From the outside looking in, it looks like the guys on the team like Gomez as a person, maybe they don't though
You damn right. Jake is not good at the plate and the need to look for something better but he far outweighs the negative vibe that is brought by Gomez.
I'm sure they like Gomez, hell I don't dislike him personally he seems like an alright dude it just doesn't translate on the field.
This. Gomez sucks and has the audacity to be a hot dog on top of that. A complete joke and I've been saying he's not the type of veteran influence the young players need on this team. He's no good. I'm sure this is a big reason why the Brewers were in a hurry to dump his ass.
Oh I completely agree he has been horrible as a player When you talk about team chemistry though, that is about how the guys feel about each other, how they affect each other's attitude/mood, how they feed off of each others emotions. I just don't see him "sucking the energy" out of the other guys on the team, and wrecking team chemistry...but again, i'm not in there with them so I don't know If it isn't about chemistry though, and only about performance, Luhnow has not given Hinch any decent options for that spot. At least Gomez has a couple of doubles in 6 at bats against O'Sullivan, probably doesn't mean anything, but if the choice is him or Jake, i'm not sure why there is a legitimate discussion about why one would be chosen over the other, except to just keep on keeping on
The team early last year has not been seen very often since. They were making plays and having fun and it was contagious.
That team's best hitter was Jed Lowrie. They had already gone into full regression mode, with Marisnick doing his best impersonation of being worse than Ausmus/Everett combined when they figured they needed to do better.
Him and Jake, who somehow hit .379 with a 1.043 OPS in April, and followed it up with a .202/.510 May, and that is who he has been ever since
