Those inside pitches are only strikes because he swings, fouling them off. He can handle the inside corner and pitches slightly off the plate, but he swings at pitches that are clearly balls. All that equals is pulled fouls into the stands and fewer walks.
Buchhulz has history of being our daddy. 3 Starts 2-0 W-L 1.52 ERA 12 K's in a game We can't surrender too many more runs.
far from his best outing for Mchugh, but he is still getting the job done. Conger and Singleton have added an extra 10 pitches to his pitch count. time to wake up, bats.
You sure about that? His career peripherals indicate that he's not swinging at a lot of stuff that he can't hit. He'll walk eventually... once pitchers stop being super aggressive with him as he makes them pay.
Yes, because I watched him do it... several times. Those inside pitches are about the only bad pitches he swings at. So that explains his peripherals. Maybe it's a weakness similar to Biggio's constant whiffs at outside sliders. Either way.. if worse comes to worst and Correa never improves (which I doubt), he is still the best SS in the AL, perhaps all of MLB.
Biggio also wasn't hitting HR's off those outside pitches... Correa's ability to turn and drive those inside pitches is feeding into his swinging tendencies. Pitchers have still been very aggressive in the zone with him... which will limit his overall walk numbers (but keep his production very high).
Refer to post #302 He can handle inside pitches... just saying he takes it too far sometimes. He's pulling balls that aren't even within 30' of the foul-line... zero chance of being hits. If he can discipline his limit, he'll walk more and won't be behind in the count as much.
