if we are having so much trouble figuring out who to keep on the roster b/c so many people are MLB ready, isn't the obvious answer to trade some for pitching? Meyers, Diaz, someone else for one stud pitcher.
Gotcha. Yeah all together the arm is definitely better and makes a difference. When I was looking up stats on arm strength I saw that Dubon has maxed out at 96 mph at one point. That's some pretty good juice for a 2nd baseman.
I agree its Julks or Jake as long as the Astros feel Julks can play multiple OF positions. But if Jake gets sent down then there are not 2 CF. The current Dubon is an above average 2B, but still a poor CF who should only play there in an emergency. But based on defense, Julks would need to be significantly better than Meyers to win that battle. Based on current performance, Jake wins and it isn't particularly close.
It's hard with Julks because he has such a great story. He was unexpected to make the roster at all, and his early success was equally unexpected. Two years ago he was basically a non-prospect and now he's hitting .300 in the majors. It's a rags to riches story in a way and those are always fun to root for. So the part of us that loves those stories really wants him to continue to succeed and have a place on the team...but realistically unless one of Meyers, Chas or Tucker gets injured (or Brantley re-injured) or Meyers/Chas go through a really bad stretch, Julks is gonna find it tough to perform well enough to stay on the team. But it's been a lot of fun watching him so far.
Meanwhile in St. Petersburg..echos on the wind can be heard saying, "The Astros are pitching a rookie today with a 2.06 ERA, 26% K% and 55% GB% armed with a 92 MPH slider that wiggles and a worm killing hammer. We are doomed."
It just seems like it was last season that people wanted to trade Javier because the Astros had too much pitching depth.
9 consecutive games against 3 top 5 ( maybe the 3 best teams outside of the Astros?) teams in baseball. 6 on the road. With Altuve, Brantley, McCormick, and McCullers on the injured list. Yordan misses the last 3. 6-2 with 1 game left. Pretty legit.

I'm surprised they left that Julks double as a hit and not an error. Seemed like it should have been an obvious out if Arozarena had read it correctly off Julks' bat. It basically went to exactly where the LF was standing when Julks hit it.
If no glove is put on the ball, then no error is given. Maybe they should but they don't give errors for bad routes to a ball or losing a ball in the sky/ceiling and not getting a glove on it.
Besides the fact that that package wouldn't get you a stud pitcher back, we don't really have a pitching need either. Houston is 6th in Fangraphs team pitching fWAR and there's probably some positive regression still left on the table for some guys. I don't see how trading our #1 hitting prospect/ one of the best catching prospects we've had in a while (in a year where the alternates are Maldy, Salazar and Korey Lee) makes us better. As mentioned in other posts, some more MI depth is about all the big league club really needs this season.
So if an fly ball lands in between two players who each thought the other was taking it, that is recorded as a hit?
Yeah I mean cool, I’ll take Altuves .900 OPS and subpar defense any day. You can throw in some really shitty base running for good measure.
