Disagree. Build on our success, how? Ink Price (4.6 ERA) or Upton (benched) for 200MM+? I'm not saying we didn't go into the offseason with areas to address. In fact, I think we did address those areas in the offseason, it just wasnt addressed by way of hindering long-term contracts. Championship teams are not built by 'spending just to spend'. They are built through the draft. They require a young core of cost-efficient talent, which we have. Crane will have to pony up for Correa, Altuve, Springer, et al. So I will hold my judgment until that time comes. But, the worst thing we could do is bankrupt our flexibility by way of inking a handful of veterans just to do it. We have a ton of upside. Crane and Luhnow are taking a pragmatic approach to competing, looking both at the short and long term. Personally, I love it. Would I like win-now moves? Sure, who wouldn't. But that doesn't guarantee a damn thing. I'd rather have the conservative approach that has yielded years of sustainable success, a la STL and SF.
I wish our guys would learn to run hard around the bases instead of standing and watching to see if the ball is a home run.
you spend to fill holes. there were several options to go after in free agency. not just the big time free agents. pirates signed david freese for 1 year 3 mil. he is having a very good season. he would easily be an upgrade over what we have at 3rd base. this team should have upgraded 3rd and 1st base in free agency or trades but they didn't.
Agreed... If he runs that out instead of admire it it's an easy triple. Finally white makes something happen though.
At some point the staff has to take responsibility. Bust this team up and watch practically every player we had excel.
Psshh.... STL and SF have made plenty of win-now moves, and they continue to win later. Same can be said for the Cubs and Rangers. No team has put their fan base through 4 straight years of historic sucking... only to continue to go cheap when there is finally some real fruit on the vine. What happened to the money that was ear-marked for Hamels? I guess they may have used it to pay for those fancy models of MMP without the hill next year.
With AJ Reed and Bregman coming up, I'm cool with them not signing anyone at those positions. David Freese? Cmon. That's more luck than it is failure of HOU to address holes. This team with David Freese or some cost-efficient 1B (in waiting for Reed) is not what is holding this team back.
Finally coming through against this guy. This pitcher has been trying to give them this game all night.
The hardest working man in Houston sports (well, maybe 2nd behind Mark Berman), Kevin Eschenfelder, is doing a rather respectable job in fill-in duty in the booth. I assume he has limited, if any, experience doing play-by-play. Pretty impressive.
