Offense seems to always get it together for him. I'm sure they'll win like 10-1 tomorrow and then get shut out the following 3 games again
Used all their runs on the first day of the road trip. Spoiler BOS 17H 12R 12-8 W(10 innings) 6H 1R 6-1 L 9H 4R 5-4 L CLE 16H 9R 9-4 W 6H 0R 2-0 L 6H 2R 4-2 L 4H 1R 3-1 L TB 5H 1R 3-1 L The struggle is real!
Lol So if the team that has scored the 3rd most runs in all of baseball is "garbage" I'd hate to see what you think about the 27 who have scored less
Springer is definitely a key player in this lineup, but he can't make up for all these holes in the lineup I feel. Springer is a streaky hitter as well but he does get on base a lot and can steal bases which makes up for his streakiness, but this team was destined to hit a major wall offensively as it is currently configured, even with Springer. The line up is just too much hit or miss and not enough quality, consistent hitters.
This offense a damn joke right now...pathetic...luhnow needs to realize this "all home run dependent line" crap isnt working and get guys who actually can take pitches and get on base.
The team overall appears to have spoiled the fan base a little early on and played above their heads. Qualls had been giving up runs every time he went out there for a while until the double play tonight. This team needs help though, no denying it. They are not good enough as is to contend.
i hope it was that pinch nerve for qualls. he looked good. Our pitching overall will keep us in the games, but our bats have to eventually wake up.
It looks like the Astros are in the midst of a course correction, which is what a lot of people were expecting would eventually happen as the season wore on. They just don't have that much talent. Other teams have adjusted to them...their lineup, their starting pitching, their bullpen, AJ Hinch's tendencies, etc. The only players on the squad that are really talented are McCullers, Correa, Springer (and in an ideal situation, Springer would be in the middle of a lineup, not leadoff). Altuve and McHugh are merely decent and I'm still slightly doubtful that Keuchel can keep up his great work. We need to see more of Velasquez. The rest of the team is AAA/AAAA-caliber. The Astros' "swing for the fences" approach at the plate can work...they just don't have enough talent to really have a lot of sustained success with it. There have been a handful of other teams in years' past that have hit a whole lot of homeruns...and managed to do so while still working the count, drawing walks and not striking out a ton. Those teams had a whole lot more talent than this year's Astros team...and they often won 100+ games and went deep into the playoffs. With the way the LA Angels have been playing lately, there's a good chance they'll catch us and pass us up in the next week or two. Take away that 10-game winning streak the Astros had early in the season, and they're a .500 ballclub.
I don't think they necessarily played "over their heads" We are missing Springer, Marisnik and Lowrie both from the team we had early, and we have also wasted some at bats on Singleton lately. Also, we've missed Valbuena several games lately too. As much as many hate the all or nothing offense, when everyone is healthy it has worked great. Many people also don't realize how much baseball is a marathon. If you (not you personally, just fans in general) are a Basketball fan first or especially a Football fan first, and then also root for the Astros, it's hard to understand. 6 months of games basically everyday, you are going to go through good times and bad times, and that doesn't matter how your offense is built. Bottom line, 2 teams have scored more runs than us right now in all of baseball, and 1 team in the AL has a better record. What we need is health....and another front line starter
There's a lot of young talent on this team. The future is bright, but this is a very lopsided lineup. It's what we have, but right now I'd say a solid bat is as important as another arm for any kind of playoff run.
I started following the Astros in the late 80s and remember guys like Rafeal Ramirez, Eric Yelding, etc. I'm a Houston sport fan and love baseball and understand how baseball season has it's ups and downs. I must admit that in recent years I stop having an interest because the Astros were hot garbage. I'm not trying to knock your optimism, but this lineup as is can't be expected to consistently get the job done as the season goes on without changes. The starting pitching has been the main consistent thing on this team and has kept the team afloat overall. This offense if not improved will keep this team from going anywhere.
People focus so much on offense, which is obviously very important But Springer is missed big time in the OF too That OF of Springer, Rasmus and Marisnik we started the year with, was easily the best defensive OF in baseball. 3 legit CF playing out there Don't have that right now
When the manager lets the umps walk all over you practically every game then it kinda sets a tone for the team. The ninth inning would have been a good time for Hinch to go ballistic on the homeplate ump. The umps will get the point that this is not the Astros that league has crapped on for years and the team will see that Hinch has their back. Too many BS calls!
This offense is definitely not built like those Astros teams of old, no doubt about that We have scored the 3rd most runs in baseball though It's not the kind of team many want, and it's not how the team will be built long term (at least not likely) But it's certainly worked. Hopefully the break will help get Valbuena back to full health, his pop has been missed
Ready for the win tomorrow. This past week has made my tv viewing not so special. We need a slump buster stat. Needs to be a girl from band camp but sticking their bats up her p***y instead of a flute. That kind of buster.
