    Tale of two regimes/eras:

one era purposely holds back prospects saying "they're not ready" (but they are ready if we coerce them to sign an extension...)

another era has no clue which prospects are destined for greatness... and calls them up in a pennant race because they're likely to be better than the slop that is getting everyday starts on the ML roster.

He's not a plus base runner, how many times have we complained about mistakes he's made on the base paths he's made this year?

He's not an avg MLB hitter especially for an OF.

He's got a way below avg arm.

The only thing he's above avg at is chasing down balls in the OF. Like I said, he's Siri with a worse arm and you can't win a championship with a guy like that as the everyday CF.

Meyers has had 54 opportunities to advance on the basepaths. He advanced 48% of those vs an expected 40% he was successful in all 26 attempts.

His 3 caught stealings are the only outs on the bases he has made all season. How many other Astros can say that?

there is much more to base running than stealing.

And all OF are not equal. CF is a much different position than the 2 corner positions. Lumping all OF hitting ability together shows your lack of depth in understanding the sport.

Or you are trying to intentionally pick evidence to fit your argument.

I can't keep taking time to comment.

    We disagree and that's fine.

    Go Astros.

Yep and he's definitely not a top 15 CF.

Jake is a good baserunner. The only thing I remember is that he tripped and fell on his face trying to steal 2nd or maybe it was a hit and run.

Seriously though, he has struck out 7 times in his last 9 at bats. It’s time for him to get it going. Our offense isn’t good enough for him to be all defense zero offense.

Do we have anyone better on defense? No but we have a guy that can play the position almost as well and, if he can get it going, has way more offensive upside than Jake. For a team starving for runs, Chas would be an upgrade in CF if he could start producing closer to last year’s numbers for the last 2 months.

I agree, if they are both going 0fer everyday Jake should start because of his edge on defense. They haven’t given Chas a prolonged look at starter since before his injury. He could still get red hot. We’ve seen what he can do when he’s going well. It’s leaps and bounds better than what we’re getting now from any of these outfielders. We really need a bat like that down the stretch.

I’m not saying Chas will automatically get red hot. We aren’t risking much on a try and see with him though.

And what is his batting average since May ended. I’m afraid to look.

Still, I understand why Jake starts. It’s just that we need offense right now. Of course you always need defense but sometimes you just need to put some wood on the damn ball. That time is now. Do we have anyone that will step up? Time to find out.

Batting average? Are you from the 1980s?

But to answer your question there are 11 Cf with over 250 PAs with a batting average under 230.

Including Corbin Carroll, Dalton Varsho, Jose Siri, and Cedric Mullins among others.

Because clearly batting average is the best waybto determine how good a guy is at a defense-first position.

Edit- I guess I just can't quit you can I?

(if he can play 3B... which they're currently trying to figure out by giving him starts there).

Maybe it is Brice Matthews in 2026 but I think they will give him every opportunity to stay up the middle.

he's gon play 3B whether he likes it or not.

Bregman natural position is SS but astros place him at 3B.

But that's also because they already had a certain gold glove SS phenom already in place.

While Pena fits some of that description, by no means is he blocking anybody. I'd be thrilled if Matthews can handle 3B.

Astros with another opportunity to offset the bs that happened the previous game. Only thing is, they're about 8 games behind on that.

The offense is embarrassing. I'm not sure how much Dana could've done to add a bat considering it was a seller's market, and the farm has been ravished to past few years. We had to retain JV, plus the lost draft picks from the trashcan penalty. Injuries will likely destroy this season and Astros will miss the playoffs. Jabreu's suckage was another huge factor that's affected everything. Astros need a 1B, while paying one 20 mil/season.... smh. Chas is a sub-600 OPS hitter, Bregman is barely above league in a contract year. Many disagree, but Diaz is having a disappointing season. There's no way anybody would have considered a.770 OPS "good" entering the season. Yordan is having a subpar season by his standards.

    Stupid f***ing season
