DK playing like his first name. Glad the bats (and balk) helped save the team from another disastrous DK game.
Rondon, Devenski, McHugh have been nails. Sipp, Peacock have been solid. Harris, Giles, Smith have been wholly unreliable. If we are able to swap Smith for someone who qualifies as "nails" I think we are in pretty good shape, especially with Morton/McCullers moving to the pen in the postseason.
I would put him on the DL, and find out why he is "broken." There has to be something physically wrong.
Didn’t mean they could review, just odd that they’d overturn anything without a replay handy. That’s something you see in the NBA, but we all know those dudes are on the take. Either way, the right call was made and the Astros won. Win win. And Bannister got his douchy self tossed. Win win win.
If say what’s the point of having any umpire conference if they can’t get together to get the call right? Since replay happened, they haven’t had to do this as much. But conferences on the field to try and get a call right used to be a semi regular occurrence. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one for a missed balk (used to be plenty for fair or foul balls), but they got the call right.
Evidently the same thing had happened to Kemp the inning before. The Astros bench was ready for it this time.
His slider has no bite and is just kind of backing up. In his Best years his command has been great. When he missed, it was down or off the plate. Now his command is not as good and he's leaving many more balls up and over the plate and batters aren't missing them. DK never threw very hard but he usually set at 90-91 and occasionally touched 92. Now he has been sitting 88-89 most of the game and occasionally hitting 90. It's only a couple of mph but that's pretty big for him.
Agreed, but we also have this too... I still think the team will look to improve the pen as they should. I would love to see a lockdown guy acquired. Won’t necessarily be easy to make it happen, but still want to see it.
Here is what the umpires said: "When he came and brought the pitch without stopping, we had to get together to make sure he hadn't announced to [home plate umpire Alfonzo Marquez] that he was throwing from the windup position," Holbrook said. "So when Fonzie said 'No, he did not announce that to me,' then he was throwing from the stretch position, and he did not stop, so that was what the balk was called for."
