The last couple of games Hoyt came in were blowout I believe so maybe the focus wasn't quit as sharp but I still feel he deserves a shot over Gregerson. Gregerson is just not a late inning type pitcher to me. Never really trusted him much in that role.
i'm perfectly ok with bringing Luke in. You don't want to extend Harris if you don't have to. Just an excellent call by Hinch to pull him when he did.
I agree that Hoyt deserves a shot. But to say "never" about Luke (I've seen a couple of people write it already) is silly--he's been pretty damn incredible as a late setup man his entire career. Including last year when he wasn't closing. If you want to say he hasn't been an elite or even upper-half closer here, or that he needs to K more guys, I'd be fine with that. But come on--it's rare to find relievers as consistent as he's been since 2009, including 5 season of WHIP's between 0.83 and 1.01...which includes the last 4 years. He may have lost it this year. More likely (IMO), it'll come back to him later in the season. But I'm down with demoting him in the meantime.
