Nope, that was my point. Only players on the active roster & DL as of 8/31 are eligible for the playoffs. With Nieve & Borkowski, Sampson's redundant. He has to spend 10 days in the minors before he can be recalled, I'd expect him to be back up at that point.
To me the real point is that Wandy should be the one that gets sent down and is ineligible for the postseason roster. He should have never been called up from AAA with his performance there. Hope he proves me wrong. We need to go with the team that gives us the best chance to get to the postseason and having Wandy go every 5th day is not what we need.
I'm all for giving Sampson a shot...BUT I don't think the team should be relying too heavily on young, unproven pitchers at this stage in the game. Yeah I know it's Wandy, but still, we already have to realy on Hirsch...no sense for a team making a playoff push with no margin for error to rely on two unproven rookies.
that's the problem ... I think they need to take a chance on an unproven rookie because Wandy has proved to me that he can't do it. If he has proved to me that he can't do it, then I have to look somewhere else even if it means I don't know what I am going to get. I'll agree there is no ideal situation here ... I just hate the fact that Wandy was rewarding by getting a spot in the rotation after such a pathetic performance in the minors.
I think Sampson is the best one to give the chance to. Something about what I've seen of this guys stuff, I feel he's got the most potential of anyone we've sent to RR.
