I'm glad that its a priority that Biggio gets to 3000 hits. He isn't terrible. Still you guys need to rethink what the word average means. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats...6&pos=2b&hand=a&league=nl&ageMin=17&ageMax=51
Berkman's crazy. Just stole 3rd. Edit: I can just feel that they are on their way to 10 wins in a row. Berkman is breaking out of his slump and Taveras is getting on base. Cmon guys!!! Ok, there's about a snowballs chance of that happening but I can't believe how dead its become in here.
I agree that this team is pretty much dead because of the way they have played, but if they hold on tonite, they will only be 5 back of CIN, PHI and SD. We still have head to head with CIN and PHI. They are close to dead, but for some reason I just can't give up completely. It really wouldn't surprise me if they pulled of 10 in row or go 24-10 and win the WC. I still believe and support the team.
I'm still here. Still rooting, just from "further away." I will get more into it if they prove that they can beat someone else OTHER than the crappy Pirates. Everyone thought they were turning it on a few weeks ago when we swept those bastards. Then we sucked balls against real teams, & even The Cubs. I can't believe as BAD as we suck, & as horrendous of a year we've had, we are again only 5 out if we hold on tonight. Anything's possible, I guess? Especially when NOBODY seems to want that Wild Card. P.S. The Pirates even make Lidge look good.
Cincy lost...so we'll be five back with a win... hangin on by a chad. And look at Biggio's '05 numbers. He's going through a bad slump right now but I maintain while he's not ideally a top of the order guy anymore he's far from a horrible ballplayer.
Why is Garner starting Hirsch again today?!?!?!?! I don't give two $hits how good that kid was at Round Rock...his ERA is 12.75 in 3 starts. Albers was MUCH better than this kid. He's garbage. It's gonna be really tough to make up any ground with Wandy giving up 6 runs a game, then having this piece of garbage give up 12. Why not try someone else??? This is infuriating
I am still watching. I still think that there is no reason to believe that this team is capable of putting it all together, but you never know. I sure hope Hirsch pitches well today.
I watched and went to games in the late 80's, early to mid 90's and in 2000. I will watch damn near every game the rest of this season. If they get there some how some way...GREAT. If they don't, then I'll start thinkng about 2007. I think Hirsh will turn it around today. He should have a solid start. Even if it's against the Pirates, it's good for his confidence to have a quality start. Just hope the offense picks him up and the pen can hold on. A win today gives then a 6-5 road trip, which ain't too bad. What they need is a real good homestand. Get some confidence that they're still in this thing going into September. Quit worrying about being .500 and start winning games. There's enough left against STL and the Reds to catch them.
Lets get the 3rd in a row today and the Astros will at least have something to feel good about. Even if we don't make the playoffs it would sure be nice to get back to .500
I don't care what anyone else thinks but personally, I think Biggio is an institution in Houston sports. I do think he and Burke should split 2nd base duties because Bidge will be gone in the next couple of years and Burke needs to be brought in to fill the position, since he is allegedly the heir to the 2nd base throne. I want Biggio to stay as long as possible but I don't want our win-loss ratio to be affected. I don't think he wants that either. I do believe Willy T needs to be top of the batting order and we also need to put another goods bat in the bottom of the order to balance it out. It's too obvious when the order starts good and gets worse down the list. It needs to be balanced with a power hitter in the beginning and in the end of the lineup. Hopefully Hirsch won't choke and if he does he better stick around and not leave because he will get fined again and probably sent back down. At this point, Zeke is pitching better then him.
Burke is a much better player than Biggio right now...but I would ride Biggio for the rest of the year...and get Burke some time at SS. DD
I don't like that. Maybe he can switch with Bidge and on the nights Bidge plays he can play SS but I absolutely love Everett and I don't want him to lose his job. Actually, I don't think it would be good to put Burke there because of how phenominal Everett is in his position. Burke needs to stick to 2nd.
No one who is HORRIBLE at the offensive end, which is half the game is phenominal IMHO. Everett is a great glove man, but he is no Ozzie Smith. I would rather have a Dickie Thon type of SS. DD
But, just like when a guy has a great bat (but is horrible defensively), you find a place for him in the lineup... the converse can be held true as well (especially since its pretty damn rare to get the type of SS defense Everett gives you in today's MLB). Obviously, you can't have holes at 3-4 other positions (like the Astros have now) and expect to be able to throw Everett out there... but if you build a good enough team at the other positions, Adam's skills become that much more valuable.
