charlie pallilo on houston sports beat absolutely ripping into craig biggio and the fact that he's still on this team. that makes me and pallilo as the only 2 non-blinded homers in the city! good on ya, charlie!
That's just stupid. Yea, Biggio with his .255 16, 45 is really less valuable than Everett's .237 4, 47 & Ausmus' 229, 2, 29.
what does he do better than burke is the better question. the answer to that is simple....nothing. he drew the comparison to the 49ers pushing joe montana out the door when he had lost a step and steve young was waiting in the wings. craig biggio is absolute crap. deal with it. he's a worthless ballplayer, and the only thing boosting his atrocious stats are the check-swing hrs that sneak into row 1 of the crawford boxes. quit arguing on behalf of him already people. him and ausmus are not major league ball players.
Deal with it for another half season. Only you and Pallilo want him out of the lineup so majority rules.
so why not have biggio pad his stats and get to 3000? Its not like we are making the playoffs or have anything on the line this year? he got dropped in the rotation..what else do you want? Jason Lane batting in his spot?
You're joking right? Or did you mean to say that Ausmus isn't a major league ballplayer and Biggio isn't a major league level ballplayer anymore?
The right answer is somewhere in between this and those who feel he should be batting leadoff still and who wink at his loss of range at 2B. He's not "absolute crap", but he's in a hell of a slump and he ain't Bidge ca. 1998 anymore.
obviously the only reason biggio keeps his starting role is because of his legacy and 3,000 hits. unfortunately he's pretty much a liability at this point. chris burke is superior in every facet of the game though i don't fault the astros or garner for hanging in with biggio. it's a tough situation.
Great comparison. I for one, as a niners fan, always thought Montana's departure was handled in a really unclassy manner. He ended up playing for the Chiefs and retiring with them. Really an atrocity. The Rockets also handled Hakeem's departure poorly. Thank god the Astros have the class that people around the entire league associate with this organization, and are showing it with how they are handling Biggio's final years.
Biggio hits well to the Crawford Boxes... but doesn't hit well anywhere else. Also, what Biggio tries to gain in power, he sacrafices in making contact, hitting to all fields, and maintaining a batting average. Burke is just a great natural hitter... who just goes up there trying to make good contact. If the contact is good enough, it goes out... that's how most of his HR's have come about.
man, this whole post really just bothers the hell out of me. i respect your insight and opinions, but man, do you realize you (and all other posters on here) bashed the hell out of me all season for telling you how much ausmus and biggio suck, and now you have come around on BOTH of them??? i'm not trying to say "i told you so", but man, you act like you've thought biggio sucks all along. i just can't WAIT until you start saying how great Taveras is.
The bottom line is with Burke on the team Biggio should not be an everyday starter. Next year they should platoon, with Burke getting the majority of the starts...Biggio only starting some home games. Burke is a better defender and a much better top of the lineup guy at this point.
I'll give that Burke is better offensively, but have you actually watched him play defense? He's one step away from horrible. Biggio is much better defensively.
Biggio has fewer errors/play, but Burke gets to more balls and has been better at turning the double play.
Exactly how I'd put it. Current slump aside, at this stage of his career, he's about average for a ballplayer. And I'm proud of the fact that the orginization is allowing him the opportunity to reach 3,000 and ride off into the sunset, all in the same uniform when he started his career.
