Garner did earn his contract last year, I don't know how you can argue with that. I agree with you that he's done a bad job of handling the pitchers, especially the bullpen. Maybe Pettitte and Lidge falling off could have been predicted, but I don't think anyone would have expected either to be as bad as they have been this season. Qualls was excellent last year, his falling apart was completely unexpected. The misuse/overuse of Gallo was terrible earlier in the season. I don't remember seeing any of the stubborness in Garner last year though, so how do you blame that on Drayton? You think he should have been fired at the All Star Break after making it to the World Series last year? Gerry Hunsicker was one of the best managers in baseball. I don't know what led him to leave, most of the reasons thrown out for his departure were speculation. He'd supposedly groomed Purpura, his assistant, for several years, and Purpura apparently hadn't shown any reason not to be trusted with the GM position. We were possibly spoiled by Hunsicker, I haven't liked what Purpura's done this year either, but why shouldn't Drayton have given him the chance this year? Pointing the finger at Drayton right now is pretty sketchy. At this point in the season I probably wouldn't argue with you if you pointed the finger at any of the players short of Berkman, Oswalt, or Clemens, nor would I argue with you about Purpura or Garner. (I might even give you Ausmus, though I still don't mind Everett out there. ) What should Drayton have done though, scrapped the entire team and the managers after the first year the club made it to the World Series?

Poor Wandy. He actually pitched fine. Qualls screwed us. That's become a reoccurring theme. I really think part of Lidge's problem is Qualls. Seriously.
This whole thing sucks for all of us here who night after night continue to watch this just waiting for this so caled run to start. Especiallay after the horrible Texans season and the injury plagued Rockets. But hey, that is why we are fans.
Its all good....Hopefully the Texans and Rockets will have a better year and the astros will be much better next yr ($$$)

Wandy is actually screwed because he pitched fine then Qualls' sorry butt came in and blew the lead plus some THEN they charged Wandy with the runs. That is some hocake mess. If I were Wandy, I'd have Palmeiro go with him there and tell Qualls he is wrong for that.
