Pretty sure Espada and the front office are as well… they weren’t bringing him in to fill the 2024 Montero (never come in) role.
I don't know who exactly this Kerkering guy is, but he's throwing whiffleballs. He slowly carved up Yordan, which is not that easy to do.
Everybody I’m with was questioning Blanco going back out there because they were all over him the inning before. Why does Espada try to force it?
Maybe not even a 5th starter… with Spencer’s ascension, he’s probably the best 6th starter in the history of baseball (and certainly in Astros history).
18 games in 18 days…. Relax. No team is built to beat any team (let alone the Phillies) 2-1 or 2-0. No team is also built to pull starters during a stretch like this with only 70-80 pitches.
How many grounders each game get through that side for a hit? It’s not a big number. Then, how many of those were because Jon was slower than the average 1st baseman? How many were because Altuve can’t extend his tiny arms as far as the average 2nd baseman? How many are legitimate hits? At least a few right? The number you’re referring to just isn’t all that much.
All I meant was do the math on whether or not a “ton” of balls were getting by him that average 1st basemen get to. I don’t notice an abnormally high number of singles going through on the first base side. Especially not a “ton” where I thought it was because of Jon’s range.
That's just an excuse. If it's obvious Blanco has lost it, (Which it was) then it makes since to go ahead and bring a RP in since Espada was going to have to use a RP in that inning anyways. By waiting all Espada did was give up the lead. the RP's are still being used. Plus the Stros currently have the RP depth.
That’s what the metrics are… math. He doesn’t get outs at the position at the same rate as an average/replacement player. Doesn’t mean he’s “unplayable” there… he is who he is.
