The Astros won the coin toss today to host a one-game playoff should they end up tied with the Cards.
Lineup tonight... definitely a cause for some debate: 1. Willy (gotta be rusty) 2. Ensberg 3. Berkman 4. Scott 5. Burke (no Biggio) 6. Lane (no Huff) 7. Bruntlett (no Everett) 8. Quinteiro 9. Sampson
YES !!! To say this is getting good is an understatement. It's great seeing STL fans panick. After all that has transpired, the Cards fans have no faith in their team and the team has no belief in themselves. This meltdown is gonna be greater then the 78 Red Soxs ! Unbelievable ! Take a page out of the 2004 Cubs meltdown and you somewhat get an idea of what is to come. This is beyond my wildest dreams, forget the WC potentially we CAN STILL take the freakin division! Wow! BTW, I wonder if Pocket Rockets got any feedback from STL fans after the ASSBLOWS swept the CRAPHOLES? LOL. Oh to be a rat in the corner of those forlorn fans ...
what happened to albers? although good to see sampson in there instead of the least impressive prospects alive in hirsh and albers.
Can understand Burke in for Biggio...even Willy (when's the last time he played?). But Huff in for Lane, especially after the game he had yesterday...wtf?
agreed, wtf? jason freakn lane? you gotta be kidding me? thats as bad as wandy coming in after clemens leaves! utterly ridiculous btw, will post comments from st louie board later tonite.....
Anyone hear that David Wells got scratched from the Padres-Cardinals game because of gout, yes gout God that's random. Really sucks for Wells.
Damn Garner, why in hell are Ensberg and Lane in the damn lineup. Ensberg is 0-11 lifetime versus Wolf and Lane is 0-5. Huff hit a homer off Wolf last week and get benched. I understand lefties are .065 versus Wolf, but damn, Huff is hot and Ensberg and Lane flat out suck. Also if you are going give Biggio a day off, how about giving him one versus a righty. He hits .234 versus righties and .294 versus lefties.
Really sucks for us. No Peavy, possibly no Young and now no Wells. The Cards couldn't get more lucky.
Bad for the Stros. Even though Wells ain't great this year, he is better than the kid replacing him. On the other hand, Cardinals would have still won because Jeff Suppan is pitching today. He has a ERA of 2.08 since the all star break.
Phillies should have a field day versus Chris Sampson today. He doesn't strikeout anybody and in the ballpark, homers are so easy to hit. I know he is an extreme groundball pitcher, but the Phillies are just hot right now.
NO kidding, he was going on and on about how Craig should ahve been called out. "That's not real baseball, that's an out...blah blah blah". And ofcourse how he said we ahve no chance at winning this thing. As for thsi game, Go Stros! W!!!!!!!!
I have no beef with Burke and Bruntlett in....but no Huff or Lamb?! Are you kidding me?! Didn't Lamb have a triple and a double yesterday? Doesn't he have like the 3rd highest BA on our team? And after what Huff did yesterday?!!! I mean..come on....Jason freakin lane?! Make me eat some crow lane. Please...god....make me eat soem crow.
You guys do realize that all of those guys, esp. Huff and Lamb, will see action if need be (and give the Stros a much better opportunity to win this thing late, or make a late comeback, then they normally would have). The main thing fans should be worried about is a rookie career minor league pitcher being able to stifle the NL's best lineup, and keep it close enough, so that those late weapons do have a chance to come into play. The Astros aren't going to "outslug" the Phillies, even with all those guys in the lineup... so lets just see how it plays out.
No, but isn't it a better bet to have your best lineup on the field? What if Albers is able to hold them to 4 runs in 7 innings? Can these guys score 5 runs? Or will it be 4-0 heading into the top of the 8th, and Berkman the only guy with a basehit?
Damn why did Wells have to go down. That was a quiet first inning for both teams. Sampson is looking pretty good.
Its Sampson. Also, out of all the options available, Huff/Lane seems to be the only interchange that people are arguing with... and Garner has been getting Lane out of there as soon as the lefty leaves the hill (thus, we should see Huff play). I'm just saying that our lineup is not the biggest issue right now... if Sampson goes out and throws the game of his life, and we're still shutout with Lane striking out 6 times... then there will be reason to second guess.
