It's sad when your backup is Sage Rosenfels and NOONE can legitamately argue that he hasn't looked better on every play he's been in on than your franchise, number one overall picked QB. i don't want to argue stats, completion percentages or even wins or losses, but to a lay person who had no idea what was going on, they all would say Sage is the better QB. He just looks like a QB where David looks overmatched and confused most of the time.
Of course you don't, because things like STATS would make your "argument" look even dumber than it already does. You would much rather talk about vague criticisms such as "he looks confused". What does that mean?
what does that have to do with david carr, msn? please stop reading more in my posts than is there. i responded to a general assertion made by the Cat which was not player-specific.
IT MEANS HE SUCKS AND HAS GENERALLY BEEN OUTPLAYED BY A JOURNEYMAN QB. IT MEANS GIVEN AN OPPURTUNITY SAGE WOULD OUTPLAY HIM WITH THE FIRST STRINGERS. IT MEANS EVERYTHING
Scouts are very specific. You won't hear armchair-GM BS from a scout. They'll tell you where his eyes are, how many steps he takes, weaknesses in form. Hell, they can even tell you about arm slot. You'll never hear a scout say, "well, he looks confused. Let's put the journeyman 2nd-stringer in."
tell ya what..when David Carr accomplishes in his career what A-Rod has accomplished in his, i'll entertain the notion of revisiting that point.
rhester posted his criticisms of dave. did you respond to those? i think "looks confused" is a pretty legit complaint/concern, frankly. when a guy just looks lost out there...that's usually trouble.
I would think that their scouting reports are a little more detailed than just saying "he looks lost and confused". Oh, and Carr doesn't even look "lost and confused" this year at all to me, so really this argument is moot. In the past, yes, but he looks more composed in the pocket this year than ever before. The passing offense is the ONLY bright spot on this year's team. BTW, why are we arguing this in the Mario thread? My head is spinning.
I think Mario played well against Dallas. He had some good pressures and some near misses. He chased down some ballcarriers and stuffed the run on the side he was on. I think he's playing pretty good and just like the case and point, the Texans have 1 cover guy in the entire secondary. People will start the Peterson sweepstakes like they did with Bush. I do like Peterson much more than Bush, but i think they still need to draft and adress the defensive side of the ball.
Very true. There are a very few QBs who consistently can get production from bad plays or covered plays--basically guys who can make something out of nothing and in addition to the executing the regular play. In today's game only Brady (with that kinda Montana-esk ability to see things noone else does before it happens) and McNabb (b/c he is so hard to tackle and can scramble) come to mind, not Manning. IMO Manning is like Aikmen, Carson Palmer, etc, they are outstanding at exploiting an opening or advantage their offense has, but they nonetheless needs that opening/advantage. I think Carr still has the chance to be a good quality QB. He has been a good QB most of the season. A bad 2nd half against one of the most athletic defenses (Dallas) when they got on a roll, that could happen to 90% of the NFLers. Here is a short list of the guys I would definetly take my chance to build by team around right now over Carr. -Brady -McNabb -Manning -Vick -Young -Palmer -Hasselbeck Carr may or may not be better than.... Roethlisberger Leftwich Rivers Eli Leinart Cutler Brees Alex Smith --Most of the 2nd groups have been with offensively loaded teams (Ben, Eli, Rivers, ML, Brees), some with a defense too, so I can't say with confidence Carr has worse prospects given the same situation OR we just don't have enough information (Smith, Cutler). Also, Eli has looked sucky and chunked games at time despite a good supporting case. I'd probably go with some of the younger ones in the above group over Carr (Leftwich, Rivers, Ben, ML, Smith, Eli)--but I can't say with all confidence they are better and their upside is greater.
I entered before i was done so i will continue. I didn't understand getting rid of smith when he played pretty well last yr. If nothing else you have depth especially since Payne is gone. Under the radar the Texans also need Travis to play better. Thats even more magnified by passing D.Johnson and Castillo. On top of that Babin another 1st rd needs to find his way on the field by producing. The lbs are ok, but Earle and Brown suck big time. They're both in the box guys. I was hoping in the 4th rd they would have taken Watkins as a ceneter fielder. In the offseason, priority number 1 should be Nate Clemens from Buff. #2 should be the best safety(merriweather from Miami or the guy from LSU). 3rd would be to make a trade for Turner from SD. 4th would be get a qb to compete with carr.
Leebigez- We ended up drafting Watkins, and I think that we didnt have the best draft in our first two rounds. (We drafted for depth and to adjust to a new 2-TE formation) But Watkins may end up being our best pick. 6-5, but quick. Can turn easy and will be a good compliment to Roy Williams as they grow together.
