We need to bring the blitz consistantly...Ive had to watch some Dolphins games this year because my roommate is a fan...Culpepper is completely choking when there is any sort of pressure on him. Bring the blitz and bring it hard.
Of course, that means you trust our safeties to be fine if a quick pass sneaks out. Wet toilet paper defense. Send occasional one-man blitzes from different spots on the field, and that might work okay. Evan
Yeah, but his ability to dodge tackles shows his elusiveness. If there weren't a half dozen defenders to replace the couple he shook, he could have made something out of nothing there.
True, but based on what Ive seen of Culpepper so far this season, he is panicking the moment he sees an additional rusher. Gotta bring the heat against him. Besides, its not like any other strategy is working. Without the blitz, we are getting schooled...cant get much worse than it already is.
But there were a half dozen defenders around him and there will always be about a half dozen defenders everytime he returns a punt. It's like saying if opposing defenses didn't send a blitz everytime, David Carr would be able to play better. Bush has a knack of juking players left and right, but at the end, its all about moving the ball up the field. It's like the saying "ten thousand dollar move with a ten cent finish."
You're right, I got my yard markers mixed up. He ran for 30 yards and gained 5. What a 5-yard return!!!
I think Smith is scared to blitz because his secondary is so bad. It's a pick your poison kind of thing: blitz and watch the other team kill you with big plays. Don't blitz and watch the other team go on a long time consuming drive down the field. What's a poor defensive coordinator to do?
Seeing that punt return makes me glad he's on another team, because I can still appreciate those moves without having to deal with the times that it's going to bite him in the ***. He has tons of ability, and way too much confidence in it. But he is fun to watch. At least until he ruins his ankles.
Talked to a good friend of mine today. His father ran into John McClain at a country club breakfast the other day. Said McClain is sooo critical of the Texans and Williams, but told him that he would never go on record with it because he doesn't want to cause any more damage to this franchise. Says the whole organization is in a tailspin.....was extremely critical of the Williams pick considering RB and VY were on the board. Interesting. This is a friend who wouldn't lie to me. It's just funny because when McClain goes on the radio he's sunshine and rainbows....but he's not really thinking that way. Specifically talked about how there is no one player that is connected to this community. Says he's never seen that before...never seen a team without one guy who the community loves. But the Texans are in that boat right now.
I don't see the point of McClain complaining about the Texans in his articles or when he is on the radio. I think its best to just talk about the current team and what's wrong with it, get over the past. He needs people to read his columns and listen to him on the radio, so he needs to keep a semi-optomistic outlook on the team.
I'm not criticing him for it. But I think it's funny the Chron will bend over backwards to find something to criticize the Astros for (remember the Hispanic issue?? Justice's articles before last season??)....but will stretch the truth to protect the fragile Texans.
Have you ever read his game blogs? He has ripped them every which way in every game this season, especially Williams.
Justice or McClain??? McClain himself said he's holding back his feelings from publication. Judging from his comments he's not just talking about the team on the field...he's talking about the organization.
One the radio he's been critical but professionally poilite. I've noticed that lately he's using an awful lot of graveyard humor when talking about the Texans which I took as a sign that he's extremely down on the organization. I think, and this applies to me as well, that it pains him to see how the national media is laughing at the Texans because they have become a running gag line with their ineptness. Sad to say, anyone who has followed pro football in Houston for any length of time can recall more than one instance when the Oilers were looked at in the same light. For example, on the day that the latest episode in the T.O. telenovella broke, on their ESPN radio show, Mike & Mike were openly snickering at the Texans' choice of Mario Williams over Reggie Bush and they were using Kubiak's own words as ammo. Well, at least T.O. was able to temporarily derail the piling on Mario for a short time. I'm sure that the Texans and Mario could use the break. I just hope they put it to good use and worked on finding a pass rush...
