Even though Ticket sales really will not be of significant change because of the huge season ticket base. Season ticket base will begin to fall soon, especially next year. People have no ties or loyalty to the texans. Houston is very fairweather, the stadium will be half full by the end of the year (even though the tickets were sold). Next year they will sell even less tickets. Also, its more than just ticket sales. This team needed a face of the franchise, an identity and something to be excited about. As of now, this team has no appeal to me besides that its our Houston football team. The team and organization is so unlikeable. If we pick bush or young (and yes I hate young), no matter how bad we are we would have something to be happy about. An exciting football player!! We could also get some publicity besides being the punchline of jokes. Williams looks terrible and this is all about to blow up in Mcnair's face. The team is terrible, boring and frustrating!
Why am I getting deja vu? Oh, that's right, we've already had this argument. *sigh* Attendance for the Redskins game was down .15% from the season opener (70,069 versus 70,180). Everyone panic!!!!!!!
It is unreal how bad he his. This is like a bad dream. My mouth was wide open as I watched that tight end treat Mario like a step child. The truely sad thing is most of us knew how bad of a pick this was before he even put on a Texans uniform. 54 million dollars, are you kidding me?
Clever analogy, but as of right now, it appears the Texans instead put a Corvette engine in that same 88 Civic. Unfortunately, the motor doesn't work...
I know ticket sales are the main thing the Texan org worries about, but it sure looks like there are more and more red and blue fans at games since increasingly all you see is red and blue. Unless all the fans are at the concession stands when the cameras pan the "crowd"... By mid season they may ask fans to move to one side of the stadium to cut costs and make it easier on the soda and beer hawkers...
Mario said he was getting double and triple teamed all day against the Redskins. This guy is a loser and is already making excuses for his poor play.
Was he getting double and triple teamed? If he was, I honestly don't see why. I think Joe Gibbs is smart enough to not triple team a guy based solely on potential. Mario Williams hasn't shown anyone anything to merit being triple teamed.
we'll see. the corporate base here is selling tickets, pure and simple. i have a buddy who owns a business and they bought tickets again this season..he says he's already thinking he won't renew next season, because he had such a hard time GIVING the seats away last week.
i'm not happy to see it. but when people are arrogant and pull the "how dare you question us...if you question us you know nothing about football" deal...yeah...it doesn't hurt my feelings to see it explode in their faces.
I didn't see any triple teams. But he was double-teamed more than anyone else on the line. Mainly because the Texans didn't blitz at all. It's a simple math problem: 5 OL, 4 men rushing, someone draws the double team. Gibbs fears Williams more than Payne, Johnson, or Weaver.
Why am I not recalling any of this arrogance people have all of the sudden been bringing up lately? And if they did do that, I can't say I blame them too much based on 99% of people's absurd reactions to the pick (i.e. "I can't believe we passed up [insert HOF RB or QB here]" for Mario Williams...whaaa!). I'm still not understanding why we didn't blitz more yesterday.
it was richard smith. he literally said, (paraphrasing) "If you question this pick, you don't know anything about football."
this is the best i can give you in terms of a link right now. not exactly my favorite source! http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/ The Texans don't have enough players. This we know. That fact was emphasized again in a 31-15 loss to the Redskins Sunday afternoon. We can blame Dom and Charley for some of that. There's also much, much more. Dom and Charley had nothing to do with the selection of Mario Williams over Reggie Bush. That one will always be on Gary Kubiak. Remember how arrogant defensive coordinator Richard Smith was on draft day? He practically dared someone to disagree with him. He told us if he didn't understand the pick, we just didn't know football.
Richard Smith can expect to be fired anyday now. I think that is what Kubiak was hinting at yesterday when he said they would evaluate if they have the right people. Is Jim Bates still available?
If that's the best example of arrogance that can be brought up, then I'm not really concerned about this organization's cockiness.
