Bielak was due to get lit, his peripherals suggested a ton of good luck thus far.

I'm genuinely curious on this one. I haven't watched a ton of Bielak pitching. What peripherals were these?

His K/BB ratio was abysmal. That and HR rate are the "three true outcomes" and a pitchers success in those areas are almost always an indicator of if they have been lucky or good. FIP is the number that indicates what a pitchers actual ERA should be based on these numbers.

You don't have to strike out a ton of people if you don't give up walks. You can walk people if you get strikeouts. He was doing neither. If you are walking a ton of people and not missing bats, you are gonna get hit hard eventually. He was attacking the zone (poorly) yesterday, and was punished for it in a major way.

I think his stuff is good enough to be a major league starter, but he will have to execute much, much better than he has thus far.

I think Bielak can eventually be a great #5 starter, or maybe #4, but his “stuff” isn’t exactly elite. Could eventually be a Brad Peacock and be a regular season starter and move to the pen in the playoffs. Would love to see him produce more whiffs. Lack of strikeouts was not pleasing. I like him and wish him well.

Yordan Alvarez was placed on the 45-day injured list. Chase DeJong is activated. Humberto Castellanos optioned. Astros needed a fresh arm after last night's bullpen game.

Chase De Jong will wear No. 69 for the Astros.

Dusty Baker said the Astros are asking MLB for permission to allow some of their major leaguers who were in Corpus Christi to join the team in Houston and continue working out — Diaz, Urquidy and Devenski among them. Corpus is shut down after a positive COVID-19 test.

Maybe I won't need to turn this one off in the 2nd inning?

Hopefullly grienke gets some run support, at least Dusty didn't put the B team offense behind him like he did against Colorado.

Nice call by Baker (probably FO) to put Tucker in as cleanup.

    Has Kyle now outperformed Preston?

It didn't take much, but yes, at least by OPS+ and WAR.

All Kyle needed was TIME. He still has less than 240 ABs (including playoffs) in the Bigs.

Did Kyle ever drop below Preston in WAR assuming Preston has a negative WAR?

Nope, that would have been difficult. At the end of '18 (Kyle's rookie and Preston's last MLB season) it was -0.9 to -2.3

A pitching change already? SD needs to pay bigtime for turning this into a bullpen game early.

My bad, it was -1.9 for Preston (0.4 OWAR and -2.3 DWAR)
