1 hit, no walks between the teams through 3. Dominant pitching on both sides. I would say lousy offenses, too, but I think it's all about the pitching so far.
The Pads broke up the perfecto and no-no but Roy has been awesome. Gonzalez layed off a couple of tough pitches to draw a walk after getting into an 0-2 count then Headley got lucky with a bloop hit. Great pitching battle.
The pitching duel continues... Pads got runners to 2nd and 3rd there but they had some good fortune. 1st batter was totally overmatched but Roy got a little careless after the 0-2 count. Roy forced the 2nd batter to hit a double play ball that barely squeaked by our new SS. Roy then pwns Gwynn on 3 pitches to get out of the jam.
Well, we can add him to the list of NL West pitchers that seem to own us. 1. Lincecum 2. Lincecum 3. Latos 4. Jimenez the Menace Am I missing anyone?
Zambrano has had good numbers against us (best OPS against of any team he's faced 10 times or more, 2nd best overall): http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=zambrca01&year=Career&t=p#oppon Carpenter's been good against us (4th best OPS and ERA of teams he's faced 10 times or more): http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=carpech01&year=Career&t=p#oppon I'm sure there are others.
I guess the question is what is considered "owning us"? Latos certainly has but he's only faced us twice.
Latos is trying hard to duplicate his efforts. All he needs now is to drive in a run or 2 and he'll do just that.
Maybe "owned" wasn't the right term to use. Cy Latos has owned the Astros in his first 2 appearances, but he could get lit up for 6 runs in 3 innings the next time they see him. He's definitely done well, but I think I'm jumping the gun a bit when I branded him an "Astros owner."
All about the guy on the mound. I didn't want to take anything away from us last night but Garland was all over the place after the Michaels HR and made it easy on us. Gregerson was unusually wild, too. I think the Braves would have trouble drawing walks against the kind of stuff we're seeing tonight.
Johnson and Castro go down looking. Latos in beast mode. He's been dominant since the start before he last faced us.
