Yesterday against the Cy Young winner and previous year runner-up, and tonight the guy who's allowed the fewest H/9IP in the NL the past 2 years.
the frustrating thing is we had good pitching the first 2 games and still lost 1 run in 2 games? SAD!
Buck..seriously..you have to admit that we had PLENTY of chances against both Peavy and Young. Good pitching may beat good hitting, but the Astros seem to always get beat by good pitching. That last at bat by Berkman was pathetic.
i understand everyones frustration.....but they way im looking at it is our 2,3,4 hitters havent even performed close to what they can do....tejada is doing well but he can also do better.....im actually really happy with our pitching so far...roy o did well (obviously he can do better), and backe tonight except for one mistake to harriston pitched a gem of a game......if our pitching can be semi-consistent and our offense comes around (which im sure it will) i think we can be atleast a 500 team......discuss
Mixed feelings so far. We've lost two games that I thought that this lineup would win with the pitching we got. If we get pitching like this for most of the season, I really think we have a chance to win a fair number of games. If Wandy gives a good outing, perhaps our 1, 2, 3 pitchers MAY be good enough. Bourne is just exciting, in the field and on the base paths. You just KNOW he's going to steal if he gets on. Pence has look terrible so far. I really hope we don't get a sophmore slump out of him. Oh well, this game could have been won. There were some pretty hard hid ball by the Astros that could have been hits. We are up against the best pitching staff in the NL I guess.
They faced 2 outstanding pitchers in the best pitchers' park on the planet. Unless you really think this offense will struggle all year, I can't see what you're upset about.
Well...Bourne looks great so far . And the staff ERA is 3.00 That's about all I can say right now I disagreed with the bunt call for Loretta.
dude you can take a random 9 at-sample from freaking pujols that would be worse then what pence has done so far this season. c'mon now. his spring training #'s where he tore the cover off the ball seem to point the opposite of what you're thinking a whole 2 games in.
I wonder if Loretta didn't do that on his own. Either way, it was a bad move. It was a panic move and it really backfired.
mind-numbing. it's two games, gents. two games. all this talk about pence...he's had a grand total of about 6-7 at bats. in the words of ozzie guillen..."mmffft....please."
Two runners on, no outs... and you bunt with your seven hitter? Why? You want to force the rookie #8 and your pitcher to drive in runs? I know Backe is a decent hitter, but come on. Loretta is a good hitter, a past All-Star and is swinging a hot bat. You take your chances with him there. Bad move. If Coop ordered it, I'm withdrawing my manager of the year vote until further notice.
They had Villareal warmed up in the bullpen, and Cruz was going to pinch hit for Backe. I'm ok with the idea of the bunt, but it was poorly executed. 6th inning is a bit early to play small ball IMO, but considering we failed to make a dent the rest of the game, maybe it was the right call. If Loretta had put down the bunt, it's possible we could've scored 2 in that frame.
