that's great!! oh, by the way...AE knocked in the only run of the game last night. i'm going to buy my lidge shirt next...and wear them alternatively every day. i'm wearing my AE shirt to court. i don't think my clients or the judge would mind.
Should have trusted my stuff. He took the needle on June 5. Missed a couple of games in late April after taking a pitch on his hand, that's what had me cornfused.
Nah, I'm serious. Maybe cost 'em a run. Maybe not. They won, so Justice didn't harp on it this morning. (on a related note, wouldn't be shocked if the Stros yank his press credentials in the near future). Why don't you get the team photo silkscreened on a shirt? If your juju is truly that strong & all...
i thought you were talking about the last time justice went on and on about him getting down a bunt. seriously?? do you think they'd really yank credentials?? he'd be finished here. sweet idea. almost napoleon dynamite-esque. "you think i got where i am today by dressing like peter pan, over here!"
Wouldn't shock me. It'd be surprising, but it's happened before. The Stros brass are superfly tnt, guns of the navaronne, mushroom-cloud-laying pissed off at him right now, though. He has basically called them liars, repeatedly, over the past couple of days. May not be that drastic, but his access to the organization has gone "poof" for now.
can someone explain the thinking behind this play last night? i believe it was Luke Scott who lead off with a double. then Everett came up...to bunt! why sacrafice an out and depend on Ausmus and Petitte to drive a run home? am i the only one who was perplexed by this?
If you think they're not going to be able to drive him home from third, what makes you think they'll be driving him home from second?
Looking on the Astros.com probable pitchers, it now says that Matt Albers is going to be starting Thursday's game. I think its a great time to get his first start against the light hitting Padres. They seem to struggle with new pitchers just like the Astros
i don't either way. i'd just rather take my chances of Everett getting at least a single than just to sacrafice and have to depend on Ausmus alone to drive in that run.
Everett is a great defensive player. I don't think Everett can maintain a .290 batting average for a season and believe he's hot right now. He did show great promise at the plate before he was hit by a pitch in 2004, but still not enough to believe a .290 spell is just a hot streak. I do hope Everett since June 1st is more representative of his future batting abilities than 2005 and 2006 before June 1st. Up until the he broke his wrist, I thought he would be a decent hitting defensive SS at about .280, .335, .400 in his prime. I would love to have Everett the way I thought he would develop at the plate with his defensive skills. Any teammate of Ausmus's that bats 8th is inherently hurting the offense by having Ausmus bat 7th. Wilson, Lane, and Ensberg have all have been bigger problems with the offense than Ausmus and Everett, but I do think it is ridiculous to excuse Everett's bat as not contributing to the offensive woes. Ensberg is a better hitter than he has been and the Astros's offense needs both Berkman and Ensberg to be very productive. I don't know if Wilson or Lane will ever contribute significantly to the Astros offense in the future.
In the chron article about last nights game, they are talking about Lance potentially being back in the lineup at 1st for tonights game with strict orders not to run hard. I think we have to take that chance again and hope he listens and doesn't try to beat anything out on the bases. I was watching batting practice yesterday and he made a couple trips around the bases, and you could definitely tell that he was conscious of that groing. Almost seems like he is tip-toeing around. Of course he runs really awkward to begin with so maybe its not that much different. It would be nice to get him back in there though.
Not ready to jump up and down yet, however, a good solid effor for Andy the bullpen...don't get me wrong, we need more runs, but its obvious our bullpen was in much worse shape...
did I miss something? I knew berkman injured the groin a couple of games ago, but wasn't he in the lineup at 1st base in the cincy series, it's gotten worse?
I think in one of the games against Arizona (maybe in the CIN series), he tried to beat out a play at first or something and he tweeked the groin again so he has been out a few games. I don't think hes played in the field for at least 3 games now.
We'll all be getting a special treat in tomorrow's game: retro uniforms from 1976. That's right, rainbow guts vs. brown & mustard yellow. Too bad the Pads aren't wearing their road uni's...those were truly hideous.
I hope LA can keep the Reds at bay and take another game from the WC leaders. The last two months of the season are either going to be really memorable or painful. I hope its the former; we've been so spoiled the past two seasons with great finishing kicks. Here's to hoping this team finds is stride coming down the stretch
