(1) Five of last seven Astros losses by one run. (2) No Astros reliever other than Albers with an ERA under 4.00 (not including Downs and Sipp who have only two appearances each). (3) Seven Astros relievers with ERA's over 5.00. (4) Jordan Lyles now 5-0. Three wins less than all Astros SP's.
Certainly seem worse when watching them. Seems like more fundamental mistakes....on pace to lose 114 games...need Cosart to step up and be dominant today
This F'n bullpen has managed to be even worse than last season's, which I didn't think was even possible. Bullpen ERA is sitting at 6.21, I mean holy crap. Our team OPS is 26th (12th in May), our starters ERA is 4.18, which is 22nd. Neither is worth writing home about, but like last season the bullpen is making this team's W-L result look worse than it should be, and it should be bad to begin with.
So, uh.. with the 1st pick of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the Houston Astros select Michael Matuella, a right-handed pitcher from Duke University?
Springer needs to go get that ball aggresively, it was shallow and coming almost straight down if he dives and doesn't get it, it's still gonna be a single
Any stud position players expected? Can't imagine we'd go pitchers 3 years in a row. Unless Appel is a certified bust by the time that draft rollas around.
Yep. The bullpen problems are exacerbated with the failure to produce runs either with hits or situational hitting.
Curious to see if Sipp starts the 8th with a left handed hitter coming up. Of course, he did just strike out two right handed hitters, so let him keep going regardless.
Why is Ashby complaining about Sipp's pace? He receives the ball from Corporan, steps on the rubber, gets his sign and starts his wind up.
If there's anything this team provides, it's a chance for relief pitchers to easily work themselves into more important roles. He has now worked 4 perfect innings with 7 K's. On track record, no reason to think he can keep this up, but right now he is officially our 2nd best reliever.
