They can call it, but can't call it with a result in the middle of an inning. If the game can't be completed, it either goes back to the last full inning that was completed, which is typical baseball rules .. . .or in the majors, I think at this point it would be a suspended game where they would complete this one tomorrow before they play tomorrow's game i think
No they can't. If the visiting team takes the lead before the game is stopped, and the home team hasn't had the opportunity to play their half of the game, it will be suspended and resumed later.
4.12(a)(5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; or http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/start_end_4.jsp
Yea that's what I thought, they would be better off to just go home right now and finish this one tomorrow before tomorrow's game
Thanks for the rule reference. I must have disregarded the part about the visiting team taking a lead after the game has become regulation.
With the exception of the abysmal performance after being sick and not pitching for a week, Qualls has been pretty reliable.
Well, at least it will be less random. I don't mind the closer by committee... I'm just for picking the best pitching candidates to close games... as most managers should be. So that eliminates guys who've pitched multiple days in a row. It should also eliminate lefty specialists. So far this year, Porter has chosen both of the above mentioned players to close games over more rested/qualified individuals. I actually like Bass... and he got the first two outs easily. But we know he's not better than Qualls or even Albers... and it just goes to show you that it ain't over till you get that last out.
