Jake really is the perfect 4th OF Great defender Good speed A little pop If he ends up being more than that, great But there is a lot of value in having a 4th OF like Jake
Agreed... he's going to get a fair amount of time out there along with Gomez/Springer to form the best defensive OF unit in baseball.
I also like the fact that Jake hit pretty damn good against KC in the playoffs in a limited role. AB 7 Hits 3 Avg. .429
He hit pretty good at the end of the season, also at the beginning. He got injured, and then the numbers went down, at the end he started hitting very good again, maybe he was completely healthy at the end.
Man, if GoGo can stay healthy all year... <blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="6" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><div style="padding:8px;"> <div style=" background:#F8F8F8; line-height:0; margin-top:40px; padding:50.0% 0; text-align:center; width:100%;"> <div style=" background:url(data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAACwAAAAsCAMAAAApWqozAAAAGFBMVEUiIiI9PT0eHh4gIB4hIBkcHBwcHBwcHBydr+JQAAAACHRSTlMABA4YHyQsM5jtaMwAAADfSURBVDjL7ZVBEgMhCAQBAf//42xcNbpAqakcM0ftUmFAAIBE81IqBJdS3lS6zs3bIpB9WED3YYXFPmHRfT8sgyrCP1x8uEUxLMzNWElFOYCV6mHWWwMzdPEKHlhLw7NWJqkHc4uIZphavDzA2JPzUDsBZziNae2S6owH8xPmX8G7zzgKEOPUoYHvGz1TBCxMkd3kwNVbU0gKHkx+iZILf77IofhrY1nYFnB/lQPb79drWOyJVa/DAvg9B/rLB4cC+Nqgdz/TvBbBnr6GBReqn/nRmDgaQEej7WhonozjF+Y2I/fZou/qAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC); display:block; height:44px; margin:0 auto -44px; position:relative; top:-22px; width:44px;"></div></div> <p style=" margin:8px 0 0 0; padding:0 4px;"> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BADEKaNqlz2/" style=" color:#000; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none; word-wrap:break-word;" target="_blank">#NoDaysOff #Focus #BeastMode #2016</a></p> <p style=" color:#c9c8cd; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px; margin-bottom:0; margin-top:8px; overflow:hidden; padding:8px 0 7px; text-align:center; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:nowrap;">A video posted by Carlos Gomez (@realcarlosgomez) on <time style=" font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px;" datetime="2016-01-02T19:10:20+00:00">Jan 2, 2016 at 11:10am PST</time></p></div></blockquote> <script async defer src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script>

He's under contract for 6 more years on a team friendly deal. A ton of surplus value there makes a trade difficult.
Interesting article on Keuchel using an old man's game in his prime. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dallas-keuchel-and-pitcher-plate-discipline-aging-curves/ After all, it’s the Aging Pitcher Playbook — add pitches, throw more junk, and nibble more. It’s just weird to see that playbook used by a pitcher in his prime to become more excellent. Weird enough that we don’t know exactly how sustainable it is.
Going to read the article later, but isn't that exactly what Glavine did? Odd that the quote suggests they haven't seen it before.
Cliff Lee too. I'd love for HOU to sign Lee. Lee's agent (who is coincidentally Kuechel's agent as well), said Lee will only pitch next season if he finds a "perfect fit." Here's what Braunecker said: The CBS article noted KC, WAS, and PIT as 'perfect' fits, but reading between the lines, and HOU should have as good a shot as any in theory. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on...nals-pirates-among-perfect-fits-for-cliff-lee
AP Source: Royals, OF Alex Gordon agree to 4-year contract KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A person familiar with the deal says All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon has agreed to a four-year contract to remain with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the team had not announced the deal. MLB.com was first to report the deal, expected to be worth $72 million.
to the NL! i'm surprised. 2.5M for him to play 1B.. I suppose that's not bad money if you plan to platoon him..
I think I would have taken him back at that salary. Unfortunately it likely would have cost us double that, and we already have a lot of glut at his position.
It's a good deal for Brewers, but as you said Astros have a glut at that position and likely no room on roster for him.
at 2.5M, I'd have let him sit in the minors until we needed him as a replacement (does he still have options?). But yes, would have cost us a lot more I'm sure edit: I suppose he was given expected playing time to sign at that salary. He prob expects to prove himself and sign a big deal
I would expect going into the season for Rasmus to get more AB's vs LHP. I would think you are looking for 500 AB's each from Rasmus, Gomez and Springer. That leaves (barring injuries) around 350 AB's for other outfielders. If Gomez can do what he did in '13 and '14 (around .284/.340/24HR/40SB) then watch out.
