Currently on the 40-man you have Edwin Maysonet and Drew Sutton. Neither are probably ready. Sutton is more of a 2B anyway. That said, if they can get out from under Miggy's contract AND get a prospect or 2 for him, they have to do it.
beat 'em to it and make my Astros/Everett shirt relevant again!!! of course...after Bruntlett-Everett-Berkman-Jubilation, it's always relevant to me.
Former Astro Mike Lamb signs with the Brewers. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081209&content_id=3708153&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil&partnerId=rss_mil
another random, ambiguous article on peavy. This one says that Peavy to the Cubs is NOT imminent.. and that if the Padres don't have a good idea that a Peavy trade is in place before the end of the winter meetings, then they're going to keep him. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3757369
Read an article today that said while the Cubs aren't part of the Tribune Co.'s bankruptcy...the proceeds from their sale would be. And that making a trade and adding on payroll for guys like Peavy was unlikely because it just might get scrutiny from the trustee. I THINK the article was on CNBC, but I'm not certain.
oh, dear God, no. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=winter_meetings_2008 The representatives for free agent Michael Barrett expect to be talking to the Orioles, who are looking for a reasonably-priced veteran to replace Ramon Hernandez after Tuesday's trade that sent Hernandez to Cincinnati for Ryan Freel. Houston and Toronto are other potential fits for Barrett, who is looking to revive his career after playing in only 30 games with San Diego last year because of a variety of injuries.
http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/132135 LAS VEGAS - Houston and the Los Angels Angels have joined the list of teams which have expressed interest in Randy Johnson after meeting with Johnson’s representatives here, sources said.
He's by far the best bargain on the market, imo. That would be a great addition, if Drayton would sign off on it.
I could never root for that whiny *****. Maybe Roy could throw some BP at his head before every game.
Johnson's camp wants 1 year at $6.5 million, but the most teams are offering now is around $3.5 to $4 million, I've read. If he's anything close to what he was last year -- nearly 200 innings at a sub-4 ERA -- that's an awesome bargain. One-year deals on veterans or players looking to prove themselves and regain value are the way to go in this market, imo.
He is due a hell of a raise. Most teams are looking to dump some salary where they can. The economy has taken a toll on baseball.
