Of course. They have to make moves like these, that's what happens when you are in the back of the pack. And if they are close come the trade deadline... I expect Astros to make a big move. Plus the Angels, Rangers and Mariners don't have the farm system to make big moves or out bid us on anything to be frank about it. Luhnow has them making moves lol. Better for us. Checkers to Chess.
If they couldn’t find a more solvent ownership group, have MLB take over and attempt to keep the core together (or be better able to withstand some short term losses). It’s not like the franchise value would go down at that point. There was fan interest there in these current guys.... the Fernandez tragedy certainly set them back, but a fair weather base will only tolerate so much. Of course this is much worse than the Drayton situation. They had just Pence and Bourne, as far as young talent goes. Loria’s the only one who really benefits right now... and he’s the least deserving.
Exactly. This is one of those moves that, because Kinsler is a big-name player, seems more impressive upon first glance than it really is. He's undoubtedly on the tail end of his career and just came off his worst season as a pro. Sure, he might be a serviceable 2B for the Angels, but this doesn't really put them much closer to the Astros at all.
He'll probably bounce back a little and be average. Doesn't make them a threat to Astros, but should increase their odds at making Wild Card.
Consensus had the division as the most competitively balanced in the MLB prior to the 2017 season. Odd how easily that was to forget.
Sounds like this stint in the Astros organization will last longer than his last one. Edit: I should add that odds are good he's traded today. It is just hard to flip a guy as quickly as last time with Rule 5 draft and other winter meeting paperwork stuff going on.
If the Yankees actually pull of a Machado deal...my god Bob Nightendale said he thinks a deal may be done by the end of the week, but tons of teams have made offers, with White Sox reportedly w/ strongest offer.
Like the Rule 5 selection of Anthony Gose. He's an interesting player. Was once a top prospect as an outfielder. Now trying to make it back to the majors as a pitcher. A potential left handed reliever in a couple seasons? He only pitched in high A last season. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...se-could-ride-100-mph-fastball-back-to-majors
He was one of the under the radar guys, he could be a steal for Miami as he has a very high upside. He’s never pitched above High A but he certainly has the stuff to survive in a lightly used low leverage relief role.
Odd choice in the sense that they could have just signed him to a minor league deal when he signed with the Rangers, so what could they have possibly seen since then to compel them to make this move? But makes sense in that he is a high upside lefty reliever who can also serve as a 5th OF. Does he make Marisnick expendable?
Interesting move. Doubt we hold onto him given he just started pitching again this year, but not only does he have potential with 100mph from the left side, but he can be used a pinch runner and emergency defensive replacement for all 3 OF spots.
Didn't we trade him as an OF to the Blue Jays? Now we have him back as a LRP who's throwing 100mph? Crazy. Plus, we could use him as pinch runner!
