Luke Gregerson, headed to the Cardinals, on his time here: "Loved it, loved the city, very memorable. Going down the stretch to the World Series had to be one of the loudest fan bases I've ever been a part of. Thanks to Houston, thanks to the fans, the organization. It means a lot to me. I'm happy to be playing Major League Baseball. That's all I can say. I'm excited to be headed back to the team that drafted me. Never played in the big leagues with them. They always have a solid team. Always find ways to win. Gregerson leaves the Astros with incredible memories. We won a World Series. It takes awhile sometimes to get that ring. Some guys play for awhile and never get that & for us to be able to do that is a dream come true. I want to do it again. Gregerson says returning to Astros wasn't really an option. I don't think there was a road leading back to Houston. We kind of had a thought in mind of where we wanted to be. The Central was one of my top picks for that, to be closer back to home. I'm excited to be there a couple of years at least, and possibly a third. I'm probably not the one to talk to when it comes to what we're looking for. I'm kind of a simple man. I tell my agent to handle whatever business he needs to handle." via Mark Berman
That wasn’t was he meant. He simply is saying who cares what agent they get, they’re going to try to get the most money they can get. Edit: And all will sign massive deals whether it be with us or somewhere else...especially considering they already won a WS.
Correct which is what his point was...he wasn’t saying they all have Boras as their agent just that it doesn’t matter because they are all going to get paid.
Tucker has more upside from batting. It would be trading upside, risk, and more years for a great, not elite player. Yelich puts up value in a lot of places without being elite in one place. He's a very good base runner on batted balls.
I love Kyle Tucker as a prospect, but exactly how much offensive upside are you seeing there? I think Tucker’s absolute offensive peak would be comparable to what Marcell Ozuna put up this season (37 HR, 9% bb, 21% k), which was worth 4.8 fWAR. Yelich was worth 4.5 in 3 out of his 4 seasons. I have absolutely no problem trading Tucker for Yelich, it’s just a matter of what else would go with him.
I have no problem trading Tucker for Yelich. I said Tucker has upside to be a better batter. You say his upside is about Ozuna's last year. fWAR has different components. For batting, Ozuna had 36 batting runs last year. Yelich's best is 25 batting runs. As such, I must accept that you think Tucker has significant upside as a batter to Yelich. Yelich picks up good value in base running and defense.
Your post had 16 position players. It had McCann, Stassi, Avila and Lucroy as catchers. It also had Gattis. Please clarify how I did not read.
I've always heard Tucker was a pretty good base runner, smarter than he is fast though. But if Myles Straw ever gains muscle mass & starts hitting line drives & fly balls instead of grounders, we already have a Christian Yelich. Straw has shown plus control of the strike zone and bat to ball skills. And I can see him learning from the path Altuve blazed in hitting to all fields and with some power.
I still expect upgrades in the bullpen. Sticking to my guns and say we sign Wade Davis or trade for Britton. Along with signing/trading for various LHP specialist.
Umm duh!!! Why wouldn’t he? Dude is a Cy Young winner and a World Series champ now is the time to get paid. Everybody in the world should try and maximize their opportunities.
They may take less, but it wouldn't be by much and would pretty much have to come in extension form rather than hitting FA. Dallas only has one chance to set his family up for life and I'm not blaming him for hiring the most successful agent in baseball to do just that.
I hope he cashes in. I'm skeptical whether he would be worth paying a ton for, as he'll be on the wrong side of 30, and has already shown in his pre-30s that he's injury prone. Granted, he's not a guy that throws a ton of heat, so maybe his stuff will age better than most pitchers. Somebody will open up the checkbook for him.
Federowicz, 30, was originally a 7th-round pick of the Red Sox in 2008 out of North Carolina. In 13 games with the Giants last year, he slashed .231/.286/.692 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI in 14 plate appearances. In 77 AAA games, Federowicz slashed .300/.366/.463 with 9 home runs and 43 RBI in 314 plate appearances Ramsey, 28, was drafted in the 19th round of the 2011 draft by the Rays out of Tennessee. He spent 2017 in the Brewers system, and in 53 relief appearances between AA (48) and AAA (5), he went 3-4 with 27 saves and a 5.26 ERA; the ERA was inflated due to an 18.56 figure at AAA. His AA ERA was 3.65. In 49.2 innings, Ramsey allowed 32 runs (29 earned) on 54 hits (5 homers), walked 22, and struck out 63. Opponents hit .274 (.246 in AA, .462 in 5.1 AAA innings) against him.
I've always assumed he wasn't staying here. He's going to be so expensive, and the team isn't going to tie up a significant amount of payroll in a high risk guy.
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Astros are looking into Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta. Also looking into trade options. I'm not a member to read his articles.
