So wait, your point is the Astros have had a number of low-to-mid-level signings over the years for players that have had low-to-mid-level production? Shocking. Clearly, no other team in baseball has comparable players, signings or trades to these. What a case.
In case you missed the plain English above, I will restate: *Every* team has a list like this. But you are free to b**** and moan about it. And we are free to tell you how very stupid such handwringing is.
This may be small moves for some people but the Astros made a couple of dumb moves in not retaining Ron Jackson and Luis Pujols as part of their minor league staff. Jackson was the AAA hitting coaching past 3 seasons and Pujols was the manager of the CC Hooks. Jackson was the hitting coach of the World Series Champions Red Sox in 2004. Pujols is a former big league catcher who used to manage the Tigers. I don't why you wouldn't retain this two with the experience they have at the big league level.
I have no idea but his players loved him and called him Papa Jack. In 2005, they were number one in hits and RBI in all of baseball. I thought it was great to have someone with his experience in AAA but the Astros think some guy named Keith Bodie is a better fit. It may be a minor moves but I really don't understand it.
This is a nice picture of past and present Astro 1st basemen. From Footer's twitter... http://twitpic.com/pi8yw
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/olney-on-lackey-astros-rangers-doumit-carroll.html Olney hears that the Astros "are cutting payroll, and will have the flexibility to make only minor moves, such as getting a right-handed hitting third baseman, to platoon with Geoff Blum."
yours truly, the 2005 Houston Astros (whose pitchers, by the way, were all signed under McLane's watch) it's a privilege to be called "moron" by someone who posts the way you do.
Pettite - Wanted to stay, but left b/c Uncle D wouldn't pony up Clemens - Same Oswalt begged and pleaded for another top notch starter, and of course he didn't provide him one
It's not about the spending of money, it's HOW he spends. And meddles. Seemingly this gets rehashed over and over in this forum.
Right, spending 100 mil on that loaf named Carlos Lee wasn't wise, they need to let Tejada, and Valverde walk, let Hawkins close, sign a no. 3 starter, let the kids play, Manzella at SS, Maysonet at 2B, Johnson at 3B
a) that's so stupid it's laughable b) posters like you would be b****ing about having let Valverde walk c) Hawkins is a whiny b**** and I can't wait to see him wear any uniform other than one that says, "Astros".
Seriously -- LaTroy was one of those signing people like djohn were piling on the Astros about: "Stupid signing!", "another McScrooge Scrap Heap Special", "yankee reject", etc. etc. Now we're clamoring for him to be the closer. Priceless.
