I wouldn’t say that Baltimore necessarily won that trade. The Astros got two good years of Miguel Tejada for a DH, a soft tossing lefty, and two below average relievers. Luke Scott would have never played here because of Lee, Pence, and Bourn. He is a DH at this point of his career. Troy Patton had Tommy John surgery and was terrible in AAA last year. Matt Albers and Dennis Sarfate both had ERA’s over 5.00 last year. I probably call the trade a push.

So have the Astros come out and actually said Manzella will be the starting shortstop ?

A soon to be 27 year old with 5 career At-Bats in the majors.

    4 Punch-Outs and 1 hit.

    Definition of Risky

While I don't think Manzella is going hit for much in the big leagues, I like to Astros to give me a chance to play before making my final judgment. I would be happy with a .250 BA and solid defense. He is going be batting 7th or 8th.

Hope they can get something done today with Wandy. If not, I have a feeling he'll get the $7MM he's asking for in arb. He was pretty good last year.

Never thought I'd see the day when signing Wandy Rodriguez was vital to our pitching hopes this year.

$10 mil for 1 year for Sheets? Noooo thanks. Glad the Astros didn't do anything like that

This one I just do not understand. The guy is a tremendous risk from a health perspective.

Garland signed with the Padres for $4.6M in 2010 and $6.75M in 2011.

That makes a lot more sense than the Sheets signing.

Sheets for $5 million would have been great. $10 million is a bit much. I'm surprised a small market team bid that much for him. Probably looking to flip him at the deadline.

Exactly what they'd do. All depends on Sheets staying healthy but if they're in it, well then they got themselves a nice pitcher, if not, flip him for a prospect or two. I'd say almost a win-win for the A's.

a win-win for the A's, unless they're sitting pretty with a 5-game lead on August 31 and Sheets's arm falls off again on Sept 6.

The AL West should be a very interesting division this year.

It seems realistic that every team in that division has a shot at winning the division. The Mariners have been a big let down in recent years, but with Cliff/Felix at the front of the rotation that will be hard to beat plus Chone Figginss and Bradley are some decent upgrades.

The Angels just seem to be good no matter who they lose. They are just consistently a quality team. Even with the loss of Lackey I expect them to be competitve.

As for the Rangers they proved they were a good team last year, but I still think they are lacking in some departments even with there improved pitching staff.

And the A's have a chance to be a surprise team. That team seems to be always filled with young talent that could burst onto the scene at any moment. Plus who knows with sheets he's a wildcard.

Man, I've got the itch now. Christmas was great, New Year's has come and gone...

How many days until pitchers and catchers report? Bring it!

I've always said there is no greater day in Sports than opening day in baseball.

That is probably my favorite day of the entire year. The baseball season is just so unpredictable.

Has me thinking Jason Varitek. I'd be very happy with that.

I can't wait for their series in Atlanta. Hoping Bud Norris is starting that weekend.
