1. We do not have that quality of prospects. 2. The few very good prospects we have will be needed on the major league level here soon enough. 3. If you gut the already thin minor league system now, we will be right back where we are now a few years down the road. In short, making those moves with a thin farm system is just not smart baseball.
Oh...duh...I probably should have known that, and/or stopped posting after midnight. The problem with moving our bigger names is that they have no trade clauses and (in the case of Roy), will not bring nearly the same return because it isn't the flavor of the month like Halladay.
I'm not sure that $5 million is the right price when the Yankees tried to sign him for a minor league deal. If we got him, it could be a huge boost to this team if he panned out.
He put up a .752 OPS last year, and can play the entire outfield. That would have been good enough for 19th(right ahead of Bourn) in the NL. Michaels had a great 2nd half, just an awful 1st half.
you with your facts! Sometimes I think people look at OPS, and if it's not .900 they scream "bad signing! cheap! cheap! cheap!" and don't engage their brains any farther than that. It's a fifth outfielder, people.
I wonder if our 5th outfielder could play 3B? He'd be noticably better offensively than our new $5MM 3B!
He's really our 4th OF now, but funny enough you should bring up 3B for him. He has played a third of an inning at 3B in his career, and in 2 chances committed two errors.
Look at the brightside Major...Feliz owns Oswalt. It'll be a season of small victories, so there's one for you.
With the 40 man filled, does this basically kill off any chance of picking up Kelly Johnson unless he takes a minor league deal(highly doubtful)?
Source: Scouts watch Chapman throw Comment Email Print Share By Jorge Arangure Jr. ESPN The Magazine Archive Aroldis Chapman threw a bullpen session on Tuesday in Houston in front of representatives from about 15 major league teams, including Houston Astros general manager Ed Wade, according to a baseball source who attended the workout. On Tuesday morning at the Baseball USA complex, the Cuban left-hander tossed two separate five-minute side sessions, throwing mostly in the 92-93 mph range and topping out at 96 mph. Chapman, 21, also threw his slider and change-up. Team representatives who attended included Wade, Los Angeles Angels scouting director Eddie Bane, Florida Marlins vice president of player development Jim Fleming, Pittsburgh Pirates international scouting director Rene Gayo, and Baltimore Orioles international scouting director John Stockstill, according to the source. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, who are expected to be heavy bidders for Chapman, each had one area scout in attendance. Several teams were expected to meet with Chapman after the workout, at the offices of his agents, Randy and Alan Hendricks. According to sources, Boston is the only team known to have made an offer for Chapman, for $15.5 million. But that offer was made a few weeks ago to his former agent, Edwin Mejia. Chapman, whose fastball was clocked at 102 mph at the World Baseball Classic this year, defected from the Cuban national team in August during a tournament in the Netherlands.

As I was reading the article I couldn't help but feel like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber "So you're telling me there's a chance...YEAH!
now THAT would be interesting. are the Sox STILL offering him that much money?? even after signing Lackey? is there even a spot in the rotation?
Well of course Wade or anyone from our organization is going to be there, he's having the tryout in OUR city. We would have to be the worst organization in the world to not watch him throw, even if were not interested when its right down the street
