No MSN, what I was trying to say is this isn't a market where you can run out scrap players for a few years and still draw fans. The Astros will draw fans as long as their games are entertaining and competitive, but if they were to go true rebuild and dump Berkman and Oswalt and then sign no FA and just play a bunch of minor league scrubs, MMP would be a ghost town.
Great signings by the Astros. They realized that with all the other teams within the division making moves that they needed to do something. Feliz wil be a great addition for cheap money. I felt we might have overpaid a bit for Lyon, but hope he works out. Lindstrom looks like a great find for the back end of our bullpen as well. Not to mention if Feliz plays well during the first half of this year we might be able to ship him to a contender for some prospects.
I am ok with the moves so far and have been impressed with Wade and his ability to use the limited resources the club has to his advantage. Saying that, I reallllyyyyyyy wished they had gone after SPing but honestly not to many SP have been signed, so hopefully when the market calms down the Stros can pick up a decent #4 on the cheap. Feliz is an ok 3b and his "D" could be a major advantage over Kepp/Blum but I would have rather spent that money on Harden and let Blum/Johnson and Kepp battle it out. I really think if the Stros don't think Chris Johnson and Brian Bogasevic aren't going to crack the squad they should look to trade them because they've been in the system long enough.
I dont know much about Feliz, but from people throwing out numbers and saying he's not a world beater offensively, sounds like a Adam Everett at 3B. Good defensively but not too much offense.
I figured that, and not the other, was what you were getting at. And I agree--the Dome was a ghost town in the late 80s and early 90s. Folks in this area love baseball, but they're not going to drive in and pay premium parking/admission/beer for a crappy product.
Horrible comparison. Feliz has some pop, and while he's generally considered a good defender, he's definitely not the world beating elite defender at 3rd that AE was at short stop.
Remember that BB has only had one full season as a hitter and that was at AAA. He still has potential, but it would take moving Lee to have a chance at the big club. It was also CJ's first full season at AAA, and his numbers improved as the season went on, and he is currently tearing it up in the Winter Leagues. Neither projects to more then a bench player, but you never know.
I'm usually the kind of person that likes to give people a chance... but from what I've remembered from Feliz..., we just got another hitter with power that strikes out a lot....
Don't worry. Lee loses his no trade clause after this season so we might be able to move him. Berkman will also be a free agent after this season and will surely make less than the 15million+ he has coming to him this season. The Astros will actuallly have a good chunk of salary avaliable in the coming years depending on how they deal with Berkman, Lee and Oswalt. Next year has a nice class of starting pitchers as well.
Did you miss it? I told you, I dont know much about Feliz and what his tendencies are or how good or bad he is.
He had 150+ hits last season with 60-something strikeouts. Compared to our offensive production at third base in recent years, 150 hits doesn't seem bad at all with around a .250 average.
Drayton will eat part of Lee's contract if he trades him, unless it is for another bad contract, because that is still 2 years $37 million for a 34 year old left fielder
Actually I would love for CJ and BB to compete for a backup roles because its better for these guys to get some big league experience. IMO it would be ideal for both get super hot in ST to force their hand or at least make them the first callups in May.
