I am among the biggest Astro lovers on this board. I anticipate each new season and mourn the passing of every season. I love being at MMP. I love watching games with kids. I love the 'stros, generally. Having said all that: I could not care less what happens in this hunt for a bullpen exchange. This team is going to have to go through some tough seasons coming up, I think. I'm just hoping it's a shorter ride than I expect to bringing in some young players who are fun to watch.
I still have no idea why Brian Moehler's option for $3 million was pick up. You could have gotten him for a minor league deal in all likely. I much rather have somebody like Wilton López, Jose Valdez, or Yorman Bazardo for the league minimum and used that money saved for a upgrade at 3rd base.
It doesn't seem to make any sense to me. What is this team doing? $3 mil for Moehler and then you are giving up prospects for a middle reliever with elbow issues? What are they doing?
Honestly, I like some movement because it tells me they are trying to do something but if it was up to me...I'd put Puma and Roy on the block and start over yesterday along with the moment Lee's trade clause becomes limited he'd be gone too.
Small addition to prior update... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/astros-close-to-acquiring-matt-lindstrom.html 3:29pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that the Astros are close on Lindstrom - swapping medicals (acknowledged by Lindstrom himself). Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel agrees that the deal is close.
Well here's your WTF moment of the day....Will Carroll is a writer for Baseball Prospectus, and here is his update on the Astros: "Heard in the lobby … astros looking for of help and speed. Pie just one of guys they're looking at. Lyle(?) one trade poss." http://twitter.com/injuryexpert/status/6508309352
GM Ed Wade "We may be back you guys with something by the end of the night. We hope so." http://twitter.com/brianmctaggart
Cool, I am worried who we gave up for him but since it wasn't mentioned I can't imagine it was any of our front line minor leaguers.
That would take some kind of forward thinking...something that completely eludes this organization. LIVE IN THE NOW!
