I had forgotten about him...yea good idea let him close, they guy has some nasty movement and good fastball.
The problem with Gervacio is that he has completely configured his game to get right handed batters out. He doesn't have any kind of out pitch against lefties and he is very mediocre against left handed batters. I think you can work around that in the middle innings, but with the game on the line and only three outs left, managers will pinch hit with all the left handed bats on the bench. Also, when he is the closer, you can't pick and choose which segments of the lineup to use him against. He goes in at the end, even if the next three batters all hit from the left side.
Assuming a deal gets done, I have a feeling they are pretty well done with the bullpen: Hawkins Gervacio Arias Sampson Fulchino Wright Byrdak Maybe they sign one more arm, but that would be it. Look for them to find some bench players and that be it.
For whatever reason I kind of think that we will still sign another starter, nothing expensive but a 4 or 5 type to compete with Moles and Paulino. Seeing the Yanks get Granderson and the Tigers get tons of young talent today makes me kind of envious.
They've had Wright starting in the Arizona league. It wouldn't surprise me if he was among the competitors for the 4th or 5th slot.
What about Ryan Sadowski? Never saw anything on Astros.com about him, but he other places reported his sigining.
Very interesting news here. If the Astros to were to make one move this offseason I would love for it to be on this guy. I don't mind spending money on a young prospect. Taken from ESPN. I'm assuming the Astros have expressed some interest.
