What ever happened to plans for Clemens' new restaurant in Memorial City Mall??? It was supposed to open in May. The section where the restaurant is/was to be located still has all kinds of signage that says it's opening in spring 2006. I can't find anything about it. Googled it and it only brings up the articles orginally announcing it would be opening. No Houston Business Journal article either, as far as I can tell. Anyone know anything??
Damn if Purp could pull off getting Andy back or dealing for Jennings, and also getting Bard I'd buy the big guy a bucket of KFC.
Bard would be excellent. A switch hitting catcher with pop is something this team has needed for some time. I wonder what the pads are looking for in a deal like this? It sure would be nice if they took Ensberg off our hands, although a package deal involving Brad Lidge, Chris Burke and Jake Peavy would not surprise me. They need a 2B after they traded away Barfield, and Lidge could benefit from hanging out with Trevor Hoffman.
Hmm, if the main players in a deal were Ensberg Burke Lidge Peavy Bard I think I'd have to be pretty happy with that, considering Lidge and Ensberg both coming off down years with question marks all over them. Wonder what else it would take to make a deal like that work out..
I have a hard time believing the Padres will deal Peavy, but if the Astros could get them to bite, that would be amazing. Also, does anyone feel that we really overpaid for Lee too much knowing that Julio Freaking Lugo just got 9 mil a year for 4 years to play for the Red Sox. That is just ridiculous.
But so is Peavy... otherwise the Padres wouldn't even think about trading him (and they still may not be... I haven't seen anything from Kevin Towers saying he's actively being shopped).
True, but at least I got the feeling last year that he found himself towards the end of the season (approx the last 2 months). I didn't watch him consistently, so I can't say for sure...but his September stats are solid, and August looks pretty decent too. But that's just hope, I guess.. And it's hope that he's available. I really can't see them shopping him when all they have to show as an addition is an aging Maddux. That hardly screams "now we have a surplus of SP's"
schmidt just signed w/ the dodgers.... 3 yr, 47 mil. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6242312 scratch him off the list.
That blows (schmidt to the Dodgers)......because i dont see us having a shot at Zito....which seems to leave us either trading for Jennings or re-signing AP (which hopefully happens)
This from ESPN blog.. The Astros remain interested in Aubrey Huff. But he appears to be a player who could be indirectly affected by Andy Pettitte. If Pettitte signs for large dollars, the Astros would have to move a salary to sign someone like Huff. The Dodgers are also believed to have interest in Huff as an outfielder if they don't sign Luis Gonzalez.
Houston may seek Garcia The Houston Astros could go after Chicago White Sox starter Freddy Garcia. Astros' GM Tim Purpura spent quite a bit of his time discussing with his top lieutenants the merit of making an inquiry for Garcia. As of early Tuesday evening, Purpura had not asked White Sox GM Kenny Williams what it would take to land Garcia, but those talks may start soon. The Astros continued their dialogue with the Colorado Rockies for righthander Jason Jennings. Source: Houston Chronicle http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/4382216.html
I'd rather have Huff at $7MM over Ensberg at $5MM, honestly. I think that extra $2MM is worth the consistency and lack of worrying about whether Ensberg is going to go into one of his ridiculous slumps at the wrong time. Plus, that makes Ensberg tradable to go get some other piece to the puzzle (even if it's something as simple as a good relief pitcher).
