Justice is a doofus. THe best part is that the two places I quoted are Richard Justice and the New York Post. No one go bet the house on either being correct.
Yeah, I violated my core principles & clicked on the link. That line is just about the greatest thing Justice has ever written.
I don't know why it should hurt on a personal level. Clemens never made any secret of the fact that he loved being a Yankee, nor did Andy. I'd be more surprised if Andy decided to return to NY though. I remember his time as a Yankee and the rumors of infidelity that caused major problems with his wife. I think they are happy with their situation now.
Wouldn't hurt on a personal level at all. It would hurt the bragging rights of having stolen two great ones from the Yankee kingdom, only to see them return as soon as Pettitte's contract ran out.
I wouldn't say that they were stolen. The Yankees basically let Andy leave because of fear over his elbow combined with Steinbrenner's lust for Sheffield.
You're right; stolen's a bad term. However you want to classify it, we got two great pitchers from the Yankees. And the Yankees *did* make a last-ditch effort to sign Pettitte.
The Yankees were ignorant enough to believe that it was all about $$$, or the "mystique" of pitching for the Yankees... Pettite cared more about being comfortable. But, Pettite also cares a ton about winning... I don't think he would have come to Houston if he didn't believe we could win (which we did). Thus, right now, Andy will have to evaluate whether or not its worth it to put his body through all that work... if he stays here, he knows he's comfortable, but winning isn't an absolute given. If he goes to NY, winning will be a given, but his comfort level takes a hit for another 2-3 years. This is why I think he may just call it quits... too much uncertainty in either situation, and too many miles on that arm to really put the effort into it he needs to do to be successful. (which is likely why he struggled at the start of the season, only to work his ass off at the end... but still come up short. It takes too much out of him).
What exactly is this referencing? I missed quite a few Houston Chronicle stories while out of state a few years. I actually had a NY Yankees fan email me the Justice blog. He is on ESPN, etc. so I guess he is one of our most famous writers and him writing that must have gotten the Yankees fans excited.
yep...cards now have the up-the-middle combo of the championship version of the Angels. Not that that's a huge deal.. shoot, Belliard was killer in the playoffs, wasn't he? Agreed on Kip.. would have been a solid 4 or 5 for us.
So who is gonna pitch for us?? Most of you freak out over getting a bat. You're gonna see me freak out over starting rotation pretty soon.
I know it is. Winter meetings coming up!!!! But I have to say...I'm getting a little nervous about starting rotation.
