Now that's a treat. You have to wonder how many other players/celebrities do something like that.

    Where Roger Clemens lives:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q...ll=29.762999,-95.521145&spn=0.004331,0.007231

Look at the map. Where Blalock and Quail Hollow Ln. meet, that is it on the south side of Quail Hollow Ln. Look for the massive house with the batting cages and basketball court. (Quail Hollow and Blalock don't meet. He is on Quail Hollow, but you have to enter from Piney Point, though you can see it from Blaylock. If you are not white or drive an old piece of junk be sure to avoid contact with all Village Police.) Feel free to go stalk him now.

November 3rd is National Cliche Day. Somewhere, Craig Biggio is smiling.

And taking it one day at a time.

    Funny item found on ESPN.

Will Craig Biggio play one more year with the Astros?

Yes. While Jeff Bagwell's days are over in Houston, Biggio will return. The veteran needs just 70 more hits to reach 3,000 in his career and the team wants to see him do it in an Astros uniform. Plus, 70 hits would make him one of Houston's most dangerous batters.

I hope Adam Everett wins a Gold Glove. Right now if you go to ESPN and vote... freakin' Eckstein is winning in votes. Are you kidding me? There's no way that midget beats out Everett's defense in reality.

Ausmus wins his third glove glove. Omar Vizquel, who is better than Everett IMO, wins his 11th.

Vizquel was better... but not anymore. Clearly a reputation award (as was Ausmus'... who had nowhere close to a "gold glove" defensive season).

vizquel was better than everett...about 5 years ago.

everett posted the 4th highest fielding percentage of all time by a NL SS this season. this is a joke, rikesh.

Your opinion is wrong. Everett is, and has been, the best defensive shortstop in baseball for the past few years. And it's not even close. Thanks.

Vizquel had a better fielding percentage this year.

And errors don't account for range at all.

To those who employ stats for ranking defensive performance: what's your preferred statistic, and what are its strengths and weaknesses? How do AE and Vizquel compare?

I'm aware of ZR, RF, and fpct. I like to use those as a reference but I refuse to come to an opinion unless I've been able to see a lot of the player in question or read a lot from folks who have watched. In this case, I didn't get to watch Vizquel at all this summer. I was in the Bay Area for a week twice this past year and heard the Giants' radio broadcast team giving him rave reviews, but that may have been biased.

I like FRAR, which is fielding runs above replacement, and the plus and minus system used in the Fielding Bible.

In 2006, Everett posted an FRAR of 39, which is pretty un-godly. Viquel's FRAR in 2006 was a very solid 20, but not even close to as good as Everett.

For reference, Vizquel is considered one of the best fielding shortstops of all time and he has never had an FRAR as high as 39. He posted a 37 in '93, and 36 twice in '91 and '98.

Max will probably tell me that any statistics that use replacement level are flawed. But this one bears out exactly what he sees when he watches the games, so maybe he will let this one slide. ;)

What I don't get is most coaches and mangers around the league seemed to be in agreement that AE is one of the best, if not the best, shortstops in the league. So if they would love to have a guy like AE on their team, why would those same managers not vote for him?

Why hasn't anyone else jumped on this? His numbers are better than Lee's or Soriano's. I know we have other options at third, but I think they are both mediocre choices.

here's what i see from everett. i see him make plays BEHIND 2B where his body is nearly entirely square with the ball. that's sick. his range is ridiculously good. he is the best defensive SS in the game today. i see him make the routine...and i see him make the sensational...it's just that he doesn't need to always dive or toss his body around to make plays that others seem to have to do. his value at that position is incredible.

i would welcome the addition but i would rather see them add an outfielder. Esberg and Lee/Soriano I think is a better combination than Ramirez and Chris Burke or whoever they put out there to play their vacant outfield position
