True . Tejada had a down year last season . Maybe he could play third . Hes definitely not worth a Patton , or any of our few good prospects . Give them Everettt and Burke .
There goes my work production for the rest of the day. I won't be able to get anything done until something is more definitive.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...ngnews.asp?sport=MLB&id=12&line=227363&spln=1 The Rays, still looking for a left-handed-hitting right fielder, are pursuing the Astros' Luke Scott. If the Astros wanted him back, Dan Wheeler for Scott would be a fair deal. They'd probably ask for Al Reyes first. The Astros reportedly wanted catcher Nick Hundley while discussing Scott with the Padres
Why in the hell would we want Al Reyes? I'd want Wheeler back before Reyes, but not at the expense of Scott.
MLB says the cubs might non tender Mark Prior, Ed Wade jump on that immediately. Its worth a shot. I assume we would pick up that 3M tab but if this guy has a chance to give us some good innings, i would go for it.
Think of it this way...if we got Wheeler back than essentially we traded Luke Scott for Wiggington...that seems pretty fair to me.
The Tejada thread got locked up....so I'll post this here: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-sp.osnotes11dec11,0,7152874.story?coll=bal_home_util Lots of talk Orioles president of baseball of operations Andy MacPhail did not attend the party, instead spending the time in his office up the street continuing trade talk that started to heat up at last week's winter meetings. Despite rampant rumors that Roberts, shortstop Miguel Tejada and ace pitcher Erik Bedard are about to be traded, MacPhail said no deals were imminent as of last night. "There's no shortage of talk, but it's just that - talk," MacPhail said. "The conversations have not ebbed since we left Nashville." MacPhail said the club is in the process of filtering the number of suitors to decide who is the best trade fit for several Orioles. At this point, it appears the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners have emerged as the leading contenders for Bedard. The Houston Astros have been the most aggressive suitor for Tejada, and the Chicago Cubs have honed in on Roberts. Asked about the trade rumors, Roberts said: "It's kind of like what I said last year - if somebody wants you, it's a good thing. Hopefully, it means that you are doing something well. I don't lose sleep over it, but it does make life a little more interesting for a week or two."
I think they end up holding onto Tejada and dealing him around deadline time to somebody with better prospects suddenly finding themselves in need of offense.
Seems like the most likely scenario. I'm betting they trade Roberts now and hold on to Tejada and Bedard until the deadline.
i disagree... only because that by waiting, you may end up eliminating teams from potential deals.....meaning that if the Astros, come July, are not in contention, they may not be as interested in trading for Tejada....and likewise for the Reds and Mariners in regards to Bedard. I see that scenario moreso for Bedard....because adding pitching for the stretch run/playoffs is always a huge priority
Honestly, I don't think so. I think they feel it's time to rebuild and get those salaries off the books. That's what I'm reading from them, anyway. They went to the winter meetings intent on moving guys. Having said that...their owner is a strange bird.
Pictured above: Peter Angelos An odd bird indeed. In fact...the Orioles owner is a strange bird...nice pun, Max.
from Ken Roesenthal: [rquoter] AROUND THE HORN The Astros no longer believe they can trade for Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, but they are among the teams bidding for Jeremy Affeldt and Ron Mahay, two of the remaining left-handed relievers on the free-agent market. If the Astros don't upgrade their rotation beyond Roy Oswalt, little else they do will matter. Wandy Rodriguez and Woody Williams currently project as the Nos. 2 and 3 starters. [/rquoter]
