smacktle...you're unnecessarily turning this into an argument thread. We don't need anymore of those..

Anyway, I like the Cruz signing--at least considering that we were talking about signing him as a ML free agent the last couple of offseasons. I'm guessing this means Scott will hang around...and then IF Cruz proves himself in spring training or early in the season, then Scott will become trade bait later on?

Low cost, low risk, mediocre reward move. Everyone can't be low-risk high-reward..so i'll take this.

I'm not happy with the Astros right now. I stated an opinion and get attacked. I respond in kind. I'm not allowed to defend myself or my opinions? All the other guys can do is tell me I whine like a little girl or correct my english?! What a joke.

Speaking of Cruz kids, what ever happened to Enrique? I remember in college one game when, during the middle of our "O-ver-ra-ted" chants, he hit the ball through the fence. Literally. It hit right on a joint between boards and went right through.

All I'm saying is that the Astros always seem to do just enough to keep the fans interested. Right now is a prime opportunity to take over a week division and I don't see them capitalizing on that. If they get a good starting pitcher this offseason without giving up the entire farm, then I will call it a success.

I'm sorry for being critical of the Astros. I didn't realize I would hurt so many feelings!

It's just difficult to take criticism of an offseason seriously when we haven't even gotten to the winter meetings yet. Last year at this time we were still a week or so away from signing Carlos Lee. Had you judged last year's offseason before that, it would have been nonsensical. He was far and away the biggest addition.

You haven't seen the Yankees do much yet, either. It's not even December. We were having fun with you earlier, but seriously--it's too early to judge the offseason. It may very well be a failure, but the majority of trades and acquisitions that will be made by any team have yet to be made. Let's talk in January, dude.

Also, I seriously don't see the Astros having a very good opportunity to take over the division. It's weak, but they're just plain bad. They have a strong core, but the farm is in rough shape. Wade inherited a real poop-storm, and if he does a fantastic job the Astros will organizationally be heading in the right direction by January of 2009. If he has them in great shape in January of 2008, he's the new Hunsicker. And I see that as a pretty difficult task.

That's unrealistic, though. They don't have anything on the farm to begin with. Their entire farm wouldn't net a good starting pitcher. So, IMO, we have to grade their performance based on what they can realistically accomplish with what they actually have in "reality", not what we *wish* we could see.

See, up until now this post had things worth discussing. I'm sure you don't agree with my takes above; let's continue to discuss those rather than regress back into more whining.

Hey does anyone think that we can move wiggy to second base or trade him and sign pedro feliz to play 3rd. Or would this move be horizontal or in the wrong direction.

They want speed & defense at 2nd.

Wigginton's a comparable fielder & better hitter than Feliz, btw.

Yet your complaints have been voiced repeatedly by others, over various seasons.

Feliz has been such a streaky player the last couple of years. He ends up with decent numbers, but such hot and cold streaks that I wouldn't want to deal with (based on my casual observation, of course). I also don't *think* he's much of a defensive upgrade over Wiggy at 3rd, though I could be wrong.

But moving Wiggy to 2nd if there's an option at 3rd is certainly another way to go (if we don't sign Iguchi, Matsui, etc.) in order to open Burke up to the trade market. OTOH, that'd probably keep our defense up the middle on the same level that it was at last year (at best). And that doesn't seem in line with what Wade is trying to do...so I don't think that'd be something he'd try to puruse.

Yep...and you can get him for $5 and a pack of Juicy Fruit. He is terrible.

We know what Burke can do given significant playing time...hit .227 with occasional power. We already have Adam Everett, we don't need another at 2B.

This I actually agree with. If all of your posts were like this one...it'd be all good. I think Willis is damaged goods with his best days behind him.

And then you say something stupid like this. Reasons why this was stupid:
    1. Making fun of somebody's moniker is just bush league.
    2. Max is a well respected poster on this board. Smacktle, welcome to the BBS. I personally am glad to have newcomers, but seriously. Guys like Max are not ones you want to poke fun of. Just enjoy his posts. Most of them are of excellent quality...especially when he agrees with me. ;)
