Shoulder pain for a 40 year old hard thrower isn’t encouraging But my want of Montgomery would also to be to keep him out of Arlington Ain’t gonna happen anyway, he wants more years and a JV injury isn’t going to make Crane all of the sudden think long term pitching contracts are a good idea lol
If there isn't a match-up advantage. Designating the inning ignores the metrics. I hope he's not pulling a Musty on us.
Not worried. at all. Verlander is not the ace of this club. He wasn't last year and won't be this year. If anything, this is just an argument to keep on exploring the 6 man rotation and at any time we can skip a start. Honestly, I'd prefer Verlander missing a month at the beginning of the season. Shake out some other arms from last year and see where we sit. What you don't want is Verlander blowing his arm out in August.
Unfortunately there is a financial component to this that may have been a wink wink / handshake deal during contract negotiations because he gets $1M for winning Mariano Rivera Award and 8th inning guys don't win that. Putting that incentive in the contract then pitching him in the 8th could make waves with players association and keep future FA from wanting to come to Houston.
In order for the JV vesting clause to kick in he needs to get to 140 innings. If he Avg 6 innings per start that would require him to have 23 starts. If he misses any significant time he may not reach the 140 innings which would make him a FA.
Looks like we may get to see a few youngsters getting some starts this Spring. Should be interesting.
Contracts I’d be cool with for remaining free agents: Snell $80M/3yrs with opt outs after each year Montgomery $110M/4yrs Chapman $150M/6yrs opt out after 2026 Bellinger $70M/2yrs opt out after 2024 Kemp $1.5M/1yr Pham $4M/1yr plus pa incentives Belt $6M/1yr Duvall $8M/1yr Grossman $2M/1yr Martinez $18M/1yr Rosario $12M/1yr Ryu $12M/1yr Lorenzen $8M/1yr German $6M/1yr Velasquez $5M/1yr plus incentives Stanek $1M/1yr Boyd $6M/1yr plus incentives Alexander $4M/1yr Hand $3M/1yr plus incentives Hill $2M/1yr NRI: Mondesi, Solano, Meadows, Smith, Vogelbach, Choi, Cooper, Lewis, Escobar, Peralta, Gurriel, Ford, Miller, Bradley, Votto, Naquin, Moustakas, Greinke, Keuchel, Nelson, Martin, Rucinski
Every pitcher has some level of arm "discomfort" every spring. Unless you start hearing stuff like "MRI" and "shut down" there's no reason to really worry.
We gambled on JV to win us a championship last year and we lost. It was a good gamble at the time, but now we have to suffer the consequences.
In a close game, you have left handed batters (who do worse against LH pitchers) coming up and RH batters following them. The analytics say pith Hader in the 8th in THIS situation and now we're supposed to ignore it so he can make make an impression on ignorant voters?
Chill out sir. Nothing is written in stone before the season even starts. It is worthwhile to work it out with your two best relievers in advance, but if that is not saying that they can’t change their minds. We are not talking Dusty here.
A couple of small pieces of bad news, news that may not even mean anything, and some people have guns in their mouths. I really don't get how some people operate with that mindset, but whatever. Thank god we're almost back to baseball.
The first time that happens in a real game you're allowed to be upset about it...deal? I might be too, btw.
All I’ve read is a bunch of nothing so far. It even says his shoulder resolved itself. Sounds like this isn’t a problem.
