I find it interesting there's all this talk about signing batters and resigning JV and the move they actually made was Montero. However we know for a fact Dusty wants a left handed pitcher in the bullpen. I don't see a free agent lefty that I'd love to pay the going rate. None of the lefty arms on the farm seem ready. So all of you guys that do all the trades who do you think is available as a lefty upgrade in the pen maybe we could send out someone like Martinez since he won't see much run.
Interestingly, I think the value of Brantley at DH goes down if Rizzo is signed. Ideally you’d have a RHB at DH at that point with three big left-handed sticks even with Alvarez and Yordan having pretty even splits.
You wouldn't trade the 60th or so pick in the draft (and $500,000 international draft money) for 4 or so years of Rizzo?
It doesn't matter what I would do but what the Stros would do and as I said I would be surprised if they're willing to lose the pick. Will be interesting to see.
It's easy to understand why Montero was signed first. The reliever market was set with the Diaz and Suarez deals. I don't expect the Astros to sign a lefty reliever. A trade MAYBE but they aren't paying another premium reliever in this market. Montero, Neris, Stanek, and Abreu all pitch well against lefties.
I wouldn't mind Rizzo...cept he has a QO stuck to him. I think Abreu would be better option and cheaper...he makes too much sense not to sign.
Yes, he played for the Yankees, but from all accounts he's a class act and a good teammate. Plus an all-around good player. I'm seeing estimates that say Abreu may fetch $20M annually. I'd rather have the lefty bat with more home run power and better defense.
I want Abreu or Bell, but I sure as hell won't be disappointed to get a productive player like Rizzo.
He specifically says he didn't have to worry about it when Kershaw was pitching because no one reached 2nd base. Players on the field stealing signs from 2nd base is legal and has been done for decades. This is yet another attempt to create a false equivalency.
