This douche canoe still trying to squeeze as much mileage as he can out of a 6 year old story, and still cherry picking which facts he chooses to present.
But Diaz is a DH? Why would you trade the catcher to keep a DH when the system is so bleak at catcher? And why would a DH ever be off limits?
Would you trade Alvarez for Perez? Diaz would be off limits because Diaz and using $62M on a different catcher is worth a ton more than Perez.
Perez will soon be 33. How much could they really demand? We would get 4 years of club control, from that perspective it's quite perfect.
As I have said elsewhere, we do not need a bat and that is all Perez offers. Maldy is already a better catcher and Lee is very close if not better himself. We are unlikely to make it through the season without injuries to starters. Trading any of them would be very risky. If forced to trade pitching for a bat we don't need I would go no further than Dubin, Bielak, or Paredes for Perez.
I hope this is true. It's the first I have heard of it. We will see. I just have not heard a single positive thing about his willingness to play catcher and don't expect a tiger to change his stripes. But it would be great if it happens. Edit: I just looked it up he played 7 of his 11 games at catcher in winter league ( and 1 at 1B). 56 innings. 1 passed ball and threw out 3 of 16 base stealers (lowest % of the 5 catchers who played at least 5 games) but at least he played.
If you trade for Perez. Next year Maldy is a free agent. This would open the door for Yainer Diaz. Perez wouldn't be that expensive. But it would cost you. I would look at a bigger deal maybe. With the value of Perez not all that great would could get acouple more pieces for good prospects
Watch Maldy sign one yer extensions indefinitely. But if he is instrumental in the pitchers' success, it's worth it.
Well, they don’t play the national league as much as NL teams, they don’t play themselves, and they get the Rockies as their “natural rival” while the Yankees get the Mets. Even the more balanced schedule helps a bit given the Mariners were so good last year (and not for these backward looking calculations, but going forward the balance will help as the West has become a much better division).
It would shock people because many teams in the postseason had a system since 2014 and no really cared what Astros did. No one cared when Red Sox got busted in 17 for using iWatch to relay media room signal to batter by using dig out coach with iWatch.
