More likely if Jim has him as an honest candidate, it likely would be more of a CEO role than what most think of when they hear the term GM Maybe Ausmus is a prick to everyday people like all of us on here, but maybe he gets along great with a lot of people in baseball. Maybe Crane sees him as someone who could find great scouts, find great talent evaluators, and get those people to be Astros. Maybe he feels like Ausmus would do a great job of building relationships with the young players so we would have more players who really want to be life long Astros, players we could possibly lock up early I’m not advocating for him to get the job It just cracks me up how everyone here knows so much better than Jim Crane who to hire to keep this train rolling
Please stop trying to compare the franchises I know “football is king” in Texas or whatever But please just stop
Hopefully somewhere that isn’t a contender And if we have injuries and need a 1B/DH type at the deadline, and he is doing good, we could easily trade for him
I would rather sign a reliever who has a great track record vs LH hitters and not worry about what hand he throws with
Altuve #1 on MLB top 10. I don’t think he’ll have a problem making the HOF with the way the media is pivoting away from the scandal.
That would be our existing BP. 7 of our 9 righties in the PS were better against lefties then righties, Martinez being the worst. Baker wants his lefty and he may get it but in actuality it’s really not needed.
I hope so, the demonization of Jose has been hard to watch. It’s the old if it bleeds it leads with the media the last couple years
Since the WS win, and the growing sentiment that that this was a very wide-spread problem in MLB, I’ve seen the media stop their continuous “slander” against everything Astros. But then there’s Even Drellich trying to sell a book….
Yea I think he’s too late now. The interest is waning with multiple players speaking out and us with another WS. Good luck with that. He basically regurgitates everything that’s been reported.
I don’t have a problem with Bagwell being involved in player development. I find it odd that he complained about player development … but whatever.
https://www.mlb.com/news/astros-potential-general-manager-candidates Interesting nuggets from this McTaggart article- Dana Brown and Craig Biggio were college teammates at Seton Hall. Also, that the Indians assistant GM worked for the Philadelphia Eagles before being hired by Cleveland in 2016.
Hopefully he doesn’t get it, only because he would use an average lefty over a right hander who is much better at getting out lefties
I absolutely hate that I had the same thought. One should not assume the manager will make mistakes, but he's asked for a loogy several times as if he doesn't have already have options to get lefties out. Outside of getting a LHP that is absolutely dominate against batters of both sides (Chafin is only one that comes to mind available in FA), it is hard to justify a loogy.
If Crane was sold on Ausmus I think he would have already hired him. It’s a good sign they are still looking
