Quiet and nice are two different things. I never found Ausmus to be an especially nice person when around him. He was an elitist that thought he was better than other people. He isn't what I would call down to earth, and he would at times say some nasty things to people that worked at MMP.

Bagwell was always very nice to the people around him.... Alou as well..... but Ausmus was a smug dick.

I had no idea that Ausmus was like that. Crazy, how before the internet took off, so many of us not around the team were so oblivious to these guys and their personalities.

Sometimes it's not what you do on camera, it's how you treat people off camera.

    Looking for a lefty?
    Pitcher Left OBP Right OBP
    PRESSLY, Ryan 235 244
    MONTERO, Rafael 262 273
    NERIS, Hëctor 252 294
    STANEK, Ryne 264 323
    ABREU, Bryan 287 318

Show me the lefty with better numbers.

A few just edge out Abreu. We get lefties OUT.

I'm sitting here in pain after cracking a couple ribs for the 2nd time in a couple years. The thought of Ausmus as the GM makes it hurt even more.

I have them pegged at 95 wins but to be honest I am not 100 % on 3rd base.
Of the two I prefer Harris. As an assistant GM he is a lot more knowledgeable about the job and what it takes to do it.
Best of all worlds would be Harris at GM and Brown as his assistant and prospect evaluation expert. Too much to hope for?

I could easily see Ausmus being a prick and I'm not surprised by this at all.

I'm with you, Harris coming from what I consider the second best run organization outside of the Astros.

    Please and thank you.

If it’s plausible Crane has changed, is it also just as plausible that Ausmus has changed?

obviously there are insiders here who have a very skewed view of Ausmus based on his time here. None of that is disputed. But if we’re accusing Crane of changing his course of being ruthless/calculating owner simply because he’s become friends with Bagwell, maybe others are also capable of such transformations?

I have a different perspective on the GM's job than I am hearing from most here. I believe the GM is responsible for building and maintaining the organization and it's leadership. I do not believe he should be the organizations best talent evaluator. He should be the best at finding and hiring the best talent evaluators. The same goes for every facet of the organization. The staff members are his responsibility. Setting the direction and core beliefs for all to follow thus keeping the organization all working the same direction toward the same goals.

I remember the houston ladies swooning for Ausmus but I wasn't a fan until the HR that tied the Burke game. Then he sucked again.

They could ask for compensation. What would you give up? Trade an asset for Stearns or Brown or the Harris guy for free?

He sucked before that as well.

I do think he worked well with the pitching staff. He played a big role in Oswalt changing his usual approach throughout 2005 which paid off huge in the NLCS against an opponent that knew him very well.

That doesn’t make him a GM. But he could provide value in some capacity.

These are usually monetary or a low draft pick. There’s nothing that the brewers would gain by playing hardball.

Sometimes? It’s pretty much EVERY TIME how you treat people off camera. That **** doesn’t escape people and resonates forever. It may get covered up for a while but at some point it’s exposed and then it’s a volcano of **** exposing what a shittty person you are.

Did you land on the spine at your local skate park? I cracked 4 ribs in 97 landing on the transition spine at Phillips skate park in Dallas and I thought I had died. That was horrible pain, I get it.

He got Oswalt to pitch to contact. It was stupid. We didn’t know just how stupid until recently but yeah- **** that guy- he’s wrong about everything and just smart enough to believe he’s superior while not being smart enough to either 1) have intellectual curiosity or 2) be a thought leader in any endeavor he’s engaged in.
